Last year, during an undercover operation, the FBI recorded Tom Homan—currently the White House Border Czar—accepting $50,000 in cash after suggesting he could help undercover agents, posing as business executives, secure government contracts under the incoming Trump Administration, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation and internal documents reviewed by MSNBC. The FBI and Justice Department had initially planned to monitor whether Homan would follow through on his alleged promise once he assumed his role as the nation’s top immigration official. However, the case stalled shortly after President Donald J. Trump took office in January and was only recently closed by FBI Director Kash Patel. In a joint statement, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said: “This matter originated under the previous administration and underwent a full review by FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors. They found no credible evidence of criminal wrongdoing. Department resources must remain focused on real threats to the American people, not baseless investigations. Consequently, the investigation has been closed.” image

Iraqi officials have released new details about yesterday’s raid in northern Syria that killed Omar Abdul Qader Bassam, a senior ISIS external operations planner. According to the officials, the ground assault was conducted by U.S. Army Special Forces working alongside Iraq’s elite Special Operations Forces (ISOF), known as the Golden Division, and Syria’s Special Mission Forces, composed largely of former “Red Bands” fighters from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The operation was supported from the air by the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). image

On Saturday, a major cyberattack targeted ARINC cMUSE, a check-in and boarding system developed by Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation (Raytheon), causing widespread disruptions and significant delays at multiple European airports. Impacted hubs included London Heathrow, Berlin Brandenburg, Brussels, as well as Cork and Dublin in Ireland. “The disruption is limited to electronic check-in and baggage drop and can be managed through manual procedures,” RTX said in a statement, noting that work is underway to resolve the issue. Airports, however, are bracing for delays to continue through Monday. image

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged the Trump Administration to pressure Egypt into reducing its recent military build-up in the Sinai Peninsula, according to one U.S. official and two Israeli officials who spoke with Axios. In a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Jerusalem on Monday, Netanyahu reportedly presented a list of what he described as significant Egyptian violations of the 1979 peace treaty with Israel. Israeli officials allege that Egypt has been constructing military infrastructure in areas where the treaty permits only light weapons, including extended runways at airbases capable of hosting fighter jets, as well as underground facilities that Israeli intelligence suspects could eventually be used to store missiles aimed at Israel. Egypt, for its part, has reinforced its presence along the Gaza border amid Israel’s ongoing war in the enclave, fearing that Netanyahu’s government may attempt to push some or all of Gaza’s two million residents into Sinai. Cairo has declared that any mass influx of Palestinian refugees would constitute a threat to Egypt’s national security. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s government has also cautioned Israel against taking steps that could destabilize the landmark 1979 peace accord, which ended decades of conflict dating back to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. image

Reuters reports that in late August, Pentagon officials met with European diplomats to deliver a blunt message: the United States plans to scale back certain security assistance to Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia — all NATO members bordering Russia. Pentagon official David Baker reportedly told the group that Europe must become less dependent on Washington under President Donald J. Trump, noting that U.S. military priorities are shifting toward homeland defense. Since that meeting, Russia has stepped up incursions into NATO airspace, facing only muted reactions from Washington and the White House. These provocations have included nearly two dozen one-way attack drones that struck Poland last week, yesterday’s violation of Estonian airspace by Russian MiG-31s over the Gulf of Finland, and Russian fighter jets harassing Polish oil platforms in the Baltic Sea. image
