According to the editorial board of Iran International, at least 12,000 people have reportedly been killed by security forces during the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran. The outlet described the events as the “largest massacre in contemporary Iranian history,” saying most of the killings occurred over two consecutive nights, Thursday and Friday, January 8 and 9. Iran International said the figures are based on information from a source close to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, two sources within the Office of the President, multiple contacts in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Mashhad, Kermanshah, and Isfahan, as well as eyewitness testimony, families of victims, field reports, medical-center data, and information provided by doctors and nurses across several Iranian cities. image
