After earlier claims by President Donald J. Trump that the United Kingdom and other nations would deploy minesweepers to the Middle East to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the British government said it is working with France and partners to form a “wide coalition” to safeguard navigation in the region.
“We continue to support freedom of navigation and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is urgently needed to support the global economy and the cost of living at home,” a UK government spokesperson told CNN. “The Strait of Hormuz must not be subject to tolling. We are urgently working with France and other partners to build a broad coalition to protect freedom of navigation.”


According to Iranian state news outlet Press TV, Iran has already started the process of reconstructing destroyed and damaged oil infrastructure, with a plan to reach 80% capacity in the next two months. Per Iran’s CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, Mohammad Sadeq Azimifar, “Contractors have been mobilized, and restoration work is already in progress.”
