Kennedy (CVN-79) on Sunday morning while pierside at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA. The circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation by authorities. image

Automatic Identification System (AIS) data from MarineTraffic indicates that only a small number of vessels have transited the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours, primarily using the Iranian traffic separation scheme. No vessel traffic appears to have occurred outside this route. However, reports suggest that some ships have transited the strait under U.S. air cover with their AIS transponders switched off.

According to a release from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the U.S. disabled an unladen oil tanker, the M/T Marivex, in the Gulf of Oman today. Per the release, a “precise munition” from an F/A-18 Super Hornet was fired into the engine and steering areas of the vessel when the vessel ignored directives to comply with the blockade. image

U.S. officials have denied claims from Israeli defense officials that the United States intercepted any of the Iranian ballistic missiles that were fired last night and this morning at Israel. However, the officials told CNN that while American forces did not assist in the defense of Israel, the Israel Defense Force did coordinate overnight with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). image
