i work in an office sometimes and i have come to learn that normies are sick all the time. all. the. time. they bond over it and think it's normal. fascinating

if you say you like philosophy but you're not living your life as someone full of inquiry and reflection and skepticism then you're not actually studying philosophy you're just reading it "Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it." —Epictetus

i know he's a jerk, but here's one of my favorite Nassim Taleb quotes. i think about it often: "The reader is invited to do the same. Look around you, at your life, at objects, at relationships, at entities. You may replace volatility with other members of the disorder cluster here and there for clarity, but it is not even necessary—when formally expressed, it is all the same symbol. Time is volatility. Education, in the sense of the formation of character, personality, and acquisition of true knowledge, likes disorder; label-driven education and educators abhor disorder. Some things break because of error, others don’t. Some theories fall apart, not others. Innovation is precisely something that gains from uncertainty: and some people sit around waiting for uncertainty and using it as raw material, just like our ancestral hunters."

reading James Joyce made me realize that freedom is also a kind of exile, and that those seeking it are seeking separation as much as autonomy. freedom always carries with it a feeling of being cast out or unwelcome. gm

if you can hypothesize its occurrence at all or expect it to any degree then it's not a black swan the term 'black swan' has been corrupted to mean anything unlikely or out of the blue its original meaning was something theoretically impossible or literally unexpected

Fibonacci brought Indian–Arabic decimals, fractions, and the calculation of interest to Europe in his 1202 book 'Liber Abaci.' originally from Pisa, he was living in North Africa at the time. here's one of the pages. his 'Fibonacci Sequence' can be seen on the right image

if you're struggling to learn something and find it hard, remember that it's likely because it is hard and not because you're bad at it keep going. it's hard for everyone.

image "I met Ross’ mother, Lyn, late last year, when I was in Miami to perform my Ayn Rand EP at the Atlas Society gala. The World renowned “Pimp On A Blimp” Alex Stein very sweetly invited me to a party being hosted by Tim Pool, where I had a lovely time and met a number of fascinating people, and late in the night I was introduced to Lyn. She ended up giving me a lift back to my hotel, and on the journey we spoke about her fight for her son, and music, and I told her I’d like to make a song. The next day, Lyn’s friend Martha Bueno sent me Ross’ 2021 Miami Bitcoin Conference address, delivered by crackling telephone from maximum security prison, and I listened to it all the way through, wandering around Miami, and it made me weep, and I knew then that it would be the basis of the record, which would now be an album, rather than just the one song. Making the record had challenges, to be sure. Getting the tone right was crucial. This is a man’s life story, after all. A man locked in jail, presumably for ever. The telephone recording is certainly the trickiest vocal audio I’ve ever had to work with. And then there was the small matter of how it kept making me cry, which gets in the way of recording vocals. I completed the record as Bitcoin was surging to $108,000, and the bitcoin 100k Christmas Parties that Clif High was predicting all those years ago were happening. Ross, meanwhile, remained in prison. But there is hope. In an address to the Libertarian National Convention in May, Donald Trump declared, 'if you vote for me, on Day One, I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht.' Well, they voted for him, and Day One is fast approaching. Merry Christmas Ross. Merry Christmas Lyn. And Merry Christmas to you, beloved Meaningwave enjoyer. Enjoy this new album. LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! AKIRA THE DON DSPDC, Mexico, December ‘24"

you use a logarithmic scale when dealing with exponential growth or decay, as with biological populations or network adoption where each new node has its own branch of nodes and so on it helps you see and understand the rate of change more accurately than a linear scale image decibels, which is a measure of sound intensity, are also logarithmic because the human perception of loudness is logarithmic meaning a doubling of sound power is perceived as a constant increase in loudness, not a doubling it doesn't make sense to plot this on a linear scale image
