coworker: "you're not worried about your 401k?"
me: no, i moved that into bitcoin years ago.
coworker: "wait are you joking?"
me:

i'm trying to catch a possum using a (humane, relax) trap baited with marshmallows so the neighbor's cat doesn't get caught.
any tips would be appreciated. so far all i have to show for it is fewer marshmallows.
i am ghibli'd out

optimization-focused influencers who spent their careers optimizing are still struggling on the dating scene and can't seem to optimize their way into a long-term relationship
i won't name names but more than a few i've listened to have been noticeably despondent and frustrated in recent years as you watch them grapple with uncertainty about what exactly they have been optimizing towards

one of my colleagues just came back from a ski trip "with a nasty case of Covid"
the year is 2025. people are quatruple vaccinated or somesuch, boosting themselves through the seasons like good pharmaceutical respecters. the argument for this warp-speeded moneymaker evolved from protection to prevention to mere symptom mitigation. and yet, here we are.
people asked how she was feeling 2 days later and she said "like i'm on death's door, ha ha"
at what point does a person like this pause and reflect? ever?
"It's the slavery of attachment that is hell, not the things themselves that we are attached to. It's a grave error to imagine that by giving up the object of our attachment we become free from the force of attachment itself."
—from 'Money and the Meaning of Life,' by Jacob Needleman
y'all @UntappedGrowth is on nostr now and he is a real one so i encourage you to give him a follow
he's a herdshare prophet preaching the good word of beef, community, responsibility, and hard work
very based and inspiring ✨🤘
the saving vs. spending debate over money and bitcoin in particular is simple
money is for doing both. saving is just spending on a longer timescale.

y'all have already forgotten that Ross is free and it shows

i know drinking alcohol isn't cool right now—and it certainly isn't health food to be sure—but for people who spend time drifting across disparate topics and seemingly unrelated subjects it is widely known to serve a kind of mental and conversational lubricant that dislodges overthinking and rumination
i see a lot of biblical historical types who have proudly exiled fermented spirits from their lives without acknowledging their presence in every major philosophical, spiritual, and societal revolution in history. which is a it odd tbh.
excess is detrimental. indulgence is sinful. but these are behaviors, not a substance.
all this to say: i think we're currently in a pendulum swing that is apexing and fixing to swing back
i know this sounds corny but reading is a superpower
you can walk into a library or bookstore, grab any book, look at squiggly lines on paper, and have your mind light up with the ideas, concepts, and images of someone in the past you never met
literacy is sorcery
if the mafia called themselves the Waste Disposal and Family Values Foundation there would be public outcry at any attempt to dismantle or shut them down
this is waste disposal and family values we're talking about. it's right there in the name. how could you.
a friend of mine has been intrigued by my bulk beef buying from a local rancher
he proudly announced tonight that he has procured his very first 1/8 of a cow from a local farm and is very excited about it
big win, lfg 🔥
don't be afraid of asking questions
the truth should be able to hold up to scrutiny
idgaf if you read books or not, but you should be trying to expand your horizon of known perspectives and ideas in some way
curiosity, inquisitiveness, and discipline are usually found in readers, but the format doesn't matter. just make sure you're digging.
fact #1: about 70% of household wealth in China is held in real estate
fact #2: China has enough homes for 3 billion people
fact #3: China has a population of 1.3 billion and falling.
😬

The Chinese are doing everything right, and they're still going to lose
Weclome back and thanks for reading!
i'm not a dev but i love learning about code and software development and tinkering with side projects
coding is a profound thing imo
this is dope

valentine's day is a cute holiday for children and young people who are not yet dating or married and therefore don't have any other anniversary to celebrate love
if you're a grown adult though i think you can move on. it served it's purpose. if you still feel you need it then perhaps it's time to pause and reflect.
