Boethius was a Roman senator, senior official, and philosopher of the Middle Ages, and he once recalled something Plato said in one of his Socratic dialogues, that "only wise men can do what they desire, and the wicked men can do what pleases them but that that will not get them what they desire." i think about this distinction all the time he's describing the difference between feelings/intentions and outcomes/consequences.

the best part of saylor's recent WBD interview is not the annoyed overrractions to simple questions but the very end, when he talks thoughtfully about books and learning from history

when Milton Friedman visited a construction site during the building of the Panama Canal, an official explained that the workers were using shovels (instead of machines) in order to create more jobs. Friedman replied, "Oh, I thought you were trying to build a canal. If it's jobs you want, then you should give these workers spoons, not shovels."

luke dashjr couldn't protect his own bitcoin but he thinks he can, and should, protect the entire bitcoin project his religious fervor is now mixing with his autism to create an aversion to depravity & illiicit material so strong that it's distorting his sense of actual reality in retrospect, the gas mask during covid was a tipoff that what used to be quirkiness had veered into a kind of apocalyptic self-aggrandizement

i listened to the new taylor swift album. it's trash and hilariously cringe, everything you heard is true. but if you're a fan and you like it don't listen to me, people should be able to enjoy things. but it is terrible it's fine, i enjoy some terrible things too. like cheap light beer, and Tottenham Hotspur, and the movie The Chase starring Charlie Sheen and Kristy Swanson never apologize for liking things

got the nicest email this morning from an old friend who, unbeknownst to me, has been going down the bitcoin rabbit hole. haven't talked in years, but he messaged me last week to say that things were finally starting to click. further proof that you can't orange pill people, they can only orange pill themselves ✨ image

the best part about this coldplay concert thing is that the head of hr is the person who lectures grown adults about ethical behavior and how to behave in the workplace
