This is a good balanced explanation. The TLDR: OP_RETURN limits are not consensus limits. It was to incentivise better behaviour. Expanding the limits benefits ZK-Snark implementations But it’s is seen as accommodating spam Worth a watch. @brian_trollz in his vid on “What Bitcoin Did” that if someone disagrees, then let them run knots & be done with it. But, considering ‘Core’ is “reference code” I think preservation of consensus is more important than breaking it. So why run your changes on your own fork? We have always heard that if someone disagrees with something, they can fork their ideas on their own, so why not here then? So we could have Core remain as is, knots with more strict filtering, & their version with OP_RETURN limits removed. Or do that in Todd’s version & be done. I get the distinct feeling that ppl on both sides are digging in their heals & the debate has now got personal. I personally agree with @LukeDashjr’s approach, but at this stage, a reasonable compromise would be to do nothing. I personally think we should block spam. I have not seen a good enough argument to push through these changes which will ultimately split the user base. The upside of the change just doesn’t seem to justify the downside of in-fighting which is Bitcoin’s biggest threat, more than quantum & being banned by gov.

I don’t agree with the idea that ‘Bitcoin Core has been compromised’. I think that’s hyperbole, but i do think it is important for some diversity when it comes to implementations as opposed to 90+% being just one. The more the merrier, and bitcoiners can vote with their feet. Let’s see where this goes. I’ve switched my nodes all to knots 🪢 primarily for the diversity, and then for the filtering of BS from my node

This is ones Mempool running Knots vs one running Core. So for those who say ‘filters don’t work’, well, they seem to be working. So why are we not running filters to keep out the crap ppl want to put on it?

It turns out, half of the entire blockchain size was mined in the last 4 years. Seems like the USD wasn’t the only thing to be inflated since Covid. I guess taproot opened doors that were previously not opened before. image

Update on my “Bitcoin Developer Journey” learning Bitcoin at the code level, 6 months in…an amazing mission so far, & opened up so many new ideas! But one advice for both learners & educators…TYPES!!! Allaahu Akbar!! Nothing punished me more than mismatched variable types!! lol. When something is hex, or bytes, or string, or integer, going from int to str, to bytes, & back again, why we do it, when& don’t get me started on ‘little-endians’ vs ‘big-endians’! But stick to it, & push through the pain, & pay more attention to understanding error messages. I hope this would give me an increased ability to discussion Bitcoin from an islamic perspective, combining both knowledges together. And I ask Allaah to Help me make something useful for the ummah.

I think the history books of the future will explain the failure of the US to stop China was that that actually tried. They should have tried to work with them? Like how normal ppl operate, rather than being so antagonistic towards them.
