Show HN: SchemaWright, learning database design in a gamified way Let me begin by explaining what it is: SchemaWright is a platform for learning database table design in a gamified way, with a real Postgres database running on your browser via WASM. It was heavily inspired by Duolingo and LeetCode, because I love the way how those platforms teach their users. I built and launched this a couple months ago, weeks after my first SaaS failed (that one was called NoteRaven, and the idea was for it to be a Notion + Medium + Udemy all in one platform; but after looking at how saturated that market was, I decided to move on). The story on how I came up with it is basically that I was working normally on my day job, and noticed how many times we had changed some core tables, and usually discussed renaming them, changing columns, relationships etc. After that, I realized that I wanted to learn how to "get the schema right" from the beginning, so I began looking for websites that could teach that. It didnt take long to realize I couldn't find one that fitted my needs: it had to feel gamified and rigorous at the same time. When I say "rigorous" I mean that the content shouldnt be standard exercises we see in university (that we never really use at work) or loose definitions we feel like is too shallow. Therefore, I decided that I would be the one to build such platform. The way I structured the app is by separating it in 3 main pages: Learn, Exercises and Lectures. The first one is where you'll find Duolingo like lessons for database schema, it goes from the foundations (what is a table, what are rows and columns), to intermediate/advanced contents, such as concurrency and queues, scaling and architecture etc. It has 8 levels, but I currently only wrote up to level 3 (normalisation). Which is funny because my boss once tested me on this lol. The Exercises page is where I took inspiratoin from LeetCode, especially the page for an exercise structure: on the left side you have the problem description, your submissions and an editorial, and on the right side the code editor and the tests that will run on your code. Finally the last page is for people who are keen on reading papers and are more drawn to academic research. The lectures reference famous and important research papers that led us to our current understanding of databases, sql and concepts we learn today on this subject. It summarizes them and teaches you the concepts, while containing some interactive exercises too! Ok, so why do I think this may work as opposed to NoteRaven? One of the reasons is that I shared this with my co-workers (60+ people, most are devs too) and boss (who is CEO and CTO), and they really enjoyed using it. That same boss gave me positive feedback and suggestions, that I actually ended up implementing on the platform (yeah your suggestion could end up there too!). Another would be that I feel like platforms that train you on database design are scarce compared to ones that teach you queries, so the market wouldn't be so saturated. Let me know what you guys think! Please share if you think some exercises are unfair, meaning that they need better context for people to answer them, and also what you think of the lesson's pace, content and interactive exercises; the same goes for the lectures. Show HN: An icon for every city in North America To my knowledge there is no icon pack for cities in NA below a certain size. So I created one! An icon for every city in NA with >100k population. 544 in total. Generated with Nano Banana Pro. These cost me ~$70 to generate. Giving away for free! Some exceptions are 1 city for each US state that didn't have a city above 100k population such as Burlington Vermont. I also took liberties with what icon was used such as Whale Tales for BTV. Surprisingly, smaller cities have many competing landmarks and it can be hard to choose! Feel free to contribute corrections. Show HN: Reverse engineering the ANE to run Gemma 4 26B at 100 Tok/s After checking out Turbo Fieldfare (a very interesting project that streamed experts from SSD on Apple Silicon Macs to run Gemma 4 26B with very little RAM usage), I tried to make this project much faster and succeeded! This project gets up to 100+ tokens/s inference on Gemma 4 26B (Turbo Fieldfare runs at 20-30 on similar hardware) and doesn't have insanely slow prefill times due to the ANE helping (I had to reverse engineer Apple's APIs to get this working). I also implemented speculative decoding, and while Turbo steered away from using mmap, this repo utilizes it so the OS file cache serves as the expert cache. Show HN: Ida, the Mac assistant Siri should have been Hi HN, I'm Francisco. I've spent the last couple of months building what Siri promised to be 10 years ago. I'm calling it Ida. Ida is a native macOS voice assistant. Hold a shortcut, say what you want, let go, and Ida does it in the apps it's connected to. Before it does anything that matters, it shows you what it's about to do and waits for you. It sits quietly at the top of your screen, built into the notch. It's free and publicly available for macOS 14+. Voice transcription runs in the cloud, or locally on your Mac if you prefer. Feel free to try it out. Would love your feedback. Show HN: Litedeck – Agentless server management GUI over plain SSH I made Agentless server management GUI over plain SSH. In Litedeck, we can show and download file, service, docker container, terminal and security, and resource monitoring. Because, I have some Raspberry pi4, mini pc(N97, N100), jetson nano but cockpit or other app install in the server, but I don't want that. My servers haven't lot of resource. so I made litedeck. And Claude or Codex install in server is heavy too. AI can connect to ssh but, I want to watch what AI's do. So I make to tracking AI and show graph view using my Litedeck mcp. Show HN: Hibi – an open source obsidian alternative i shared hibi here in september as an open-source obsidian alternative but i wasn't able to attend to it much: for context, hibi is a free, open-source markdown/latex/typst/and more editor that keeps files in your own folders and it is my beloved hobby project that i use everyday in the previous post, i was asked how mature the addon architecture was and while that was very early, we've gotten it to a point where we are having a somewhat mature ecosystem already. i'd like feedback from people trying to build addons. someone even built doom for hibi! we now also have recommended nightlies: /releases/tag/nightly-g... please back up your notes before trying hibi, though we are continuing best effort to help migrate obsidian notes -> hibi seamlessly. hope you guys enjoy trying it out! i'll be monitoring this at least once a day!
