Societies that solve problems with technology and adapt are those that flourish and survive. Those that fight it do not. 🔥 The winters were gold and unforgiving, so we developed the technology to make fire on demand. Those who didn't make use of this died. 🌽 Even with fire, food was hard to come by, so we developed agriculture. Societies that didn't use this became irrelevant and got defeated in wars. 👫 People's sexual proclivities distracted us and caused conflict but we're also powerful motivators, we developed monogamy to harness and direct this power. Nearly every human society ends up adopting this system. 🖨️ Our ability to copy ideas, share, and iterate was limited by the speed of oral traditions and writing, so we developed the printing press 👑 Our potential and creativity was siphoned to a few powerful people who lacked the right information to make judgements that improved everyone's lives. They were also tyrants. So we developed democracy and moved from centrally planned economies to free markets 🏦 We moved from the printing press to the telegraph and soon the speed of transmitting information was faster than the speed of transmitting gold. So we developed currency backed by gold instead of moving around the gold itself. 🤔 Turns out the people in charge of that currency weren't trustworthy, in fact, many of our social and political systems were systems of rules that had to be enforced by SOMEONE but that also incentivized that someone to abuse that power and inherently exempted them from those same rules. 🎯 So Satoshi Nakomoto made Bitcoin aka blockchain. Now we didn't have to trust anyone and the system would self-enforce it's rules. Nobody could exempt themselves from the rules of physics and math. He made it to solve currency but he solved a much much bigger problem in the process. Thank you Satoshi ❤️. 16 years ago today someone used your invention for the first financial transaction: buying a pizza. Tomorrow we will use it for everything else. #bitcoin #blockchain #tech

Seeing all the anti-onchain zap people argue against *checks notes* using Bitcoin as money is wild. Critiques about on chain privacy are valid, and exactly why we need to upgrade L1, not abandon its use entirely.

🚢re: hantavirus, your lifetime risk of dying in a car crash is 1%. The yearly historical risk of a pandemic has been 2%. But that's been accelerated recently by climate change/deforestation/globalization, so it's higher now. There's roughly a 50% chance of one in the next 25 years. We got really, really lucky that covid only had a mortality rate of 1%. 👹Hantavirus? 40% 🪱Ebola? 50%. 🦠Spanish flu? 2.5% 😷MERS? 35% 🐔H5N1 (bird flu)? 10% (US)-50% (Global) #pandemic #flu #covid #h5n1 #health

Question about running a cashu mint, do any of the mint softwares automatically manage liquidity on lightning so your mint can always generate payable invoices via LN and seamlessly swap from onchain to ln? Or is that left up to the mint operator to do manually? #asknostr @calle 💯

Hot tip for nostr: many clients do not show you a count of who is following you, yet this is social media and many people want to know they are followed. So if you see a post that you like and it makes you start following that person, comment "following". I have found people respond positively to this. #grownostr #advice #nostr

What are the best ways to automatically provision inbound liquidity in #LND? I'm aware of pool but read there's not many nodes that actually offer swaps via pool? And it has centralizion risk I see electrum has a way to get submarine swap providers via nostr, does LND support this too? #asknostr #bitcoin #lightningnetwork

#freedomtech has long won the technical fight but lost the political war. How do we start actually WINNING? How do we start increasing privacy and access to it instead of fighting back the continuous erosion of it? How do we STRENGTHEN free speech laws to survive current challenges and make sure new tech doesn't mean less speech rights? How do we make sure everyone has the right to self-custody, to transact, and to freely associate? #bitcoin has to win. Hoping it doesn't isn't enough, it's enemies aren't so passive

The same US Congress that covered for Epstein for decades is now trying to require KYC to use an AI chatbot under the pretense that it's to "protect children". Tell them you oppose this and you vote. Freedom tech has a long history of winning the technical battle but losing the political one. Let's change that. #privacy #ai #vibecoding #kyc #politics

40 years ago today, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster happened (USSR, now Ukraine). The cleanup and disaster mitigation involved exposing HALF A MILLION people to radiation, potentially many more. These people, called liquidators, risked their lives to protect us all, and many of them paid the ultimate price either in the immediate aftermath or years down the line due to increased rates of cancer and other ailments. Many never received their promised pensions and healthcare after the fall of the Soviet Union since the government guaranteeing such benefits no longer existed. There is a memorial to the liquidators pictured below with has a simple inscription: "To those who saved the world". A potent example of our power and the responsibility that comes with it. We stand on the shoulders of giants who risked everything to ensure a future for humanity. An opportunity for us to do better and go farther than they did. And a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. We only get one earth. If this topic is of interest to you, you can learn about the liquidators in the USSR and Japan in this very well done video: #onthisday #ussr #ukraine #nuclear #history
