Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed
The "landmark" legislation aims to stop anyone born after 1 January 2009 from taking up smoking to create a smoke-free generation.
Smoked a turkey today. Basically took 14 hours. It was windy then rainy, it cooled down the smoker while I was gone. Can't wait until tomorrow when the kids try it.
Imagine what it must feel like to spend from other peoples wallets to pay for your own lifestyle.
The man who implores others to give, rather than giving himself, is not acting from charity but from displacement. He carries the guilt of not giving, and he cannot bear it. Instead of resolving it through his own will, he redirects it outward.
That redirection takes the form of accusation: others are blamed for “allowing” a system (presumed to be under their control) that fails to meet the need. What is actually his unfulfilled obligation is reframed as their moral failure.
Shame intensifies this move. It is not the cause, but the pressure. The man does not want to be seen, or to see himself, as one who withholds. So he constructs a moral demand that implicates everyone else.
In doing so, he does not become charitable. He transforms his own failure to give into a justification for compelling others to give in his place.

Charity that requires injustice is not charity. Taking from one to give to another under compulsion is not mercy, it's force with moral decoration.
When a man refuses to give of his own will, yet demands that giving occur through the system, he is not being charitable. He is evading charity. The obligation remains, but he displaces it: onto law, onto society, onto others.
Then comes the inversion: those who do not comply are treated as morally deficient. Judgment is projected outward to cover the absence inward.
This is not generosity. It is the management of shame.
The man will not sacrifice, so he constructs a mechanism that sacrifices others in his name. He will not bear responsibility, so he assigns it to an abstraction. What should have been resolved in his own will is instead enforced through power.
The result is a false mercy, one that costs him nothing, compels everyone else, and allows him to stand clean without ever having given.
It is not charity. It is the outsourcing of conscience.
