I can look at a single unroasted or roasted coffee bean and tell you in which country it was grown and how it was processed.
You can blindfold me and hand me a random pile of United States coinage, and I can tell you its total by its weight.
Who's the normie now? π

There is a lightning storm happening at sunset. Every time the lightning flashes, the whole sky goes from grey to pink. Very other worldly.

Its raining. I'm roasting hatch chiles and listening to Tom Waits. It's been a good day.

I went by my favorite coin shop today, but it was closed for a long holiday weekend. I decided to go to the sleezey one instead, where they have to buzz you in, and the guys working always ask me weird questions in a Brooklyn accent, such as if I'd be interested in selling the rims off my vehicle and that kind of stuff.
Fortunately, the guy working today was somewhat normal. I got what I was looking to buy. He asked if I wanted anything else. I asked if they had anything cute. He dug around in the bins for a few moments and held up this little bar. He said, "Is this cute?" I said, "Sure," paid, and left.
I looked at it more closely after I got into my car. "Marilyn" on red velvet, stamped in 1973. It's one of those things that would be a collector's item if it wasn't beat to hell. It's scratched and discolored, but its pretty cool. I can't help but wonder if someone carried around their silver nude hottie as a good luck charm or something. The mystery is more fun to me than any market value.
(Pardon my dirty hands, I haven't washed up from transplanting trees yet. π

Anyhow... my dinner tonight is Thai-inspired pork and broccoli, with leftover rice from the power-outage-inspired Chinese takeout dinner I had yesterday π
I grew every vegetable in this dish, plus most of the spices and aromatics in the sausage. I ground and mixed the sausage from pork I bought from a friend. The only things I know for sure came from a grocery store are the lime juice & fish sauce in my makeshift prik nam pla, which is made with jalapeΓ±os because I have harvested at least 100 peppers in the last 3 weeks... oh, and some yellow curry powder.
