Really interesting new paper exploring how GTP-generated sentences can drive brain region specific responses in humans reading those sentences. Could be a first glimpse into better understanding how LLMs-AI models "interact" with human language as perceived by the brain (in simplified terms). It's with restricted access on Nature but the preprint can be downloaded under https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.04.16.537080v1 #science #neuroscience #neurology #AI #LLM

Just a reminder to always keep a level of scepticism when reading about scientific breakthroughs in the main press. Unfortunately, the main press loves to run with these kind of initial scientific reports/breakthroughs but when the science community then corrects itself, as it so often does as part of the regular scientific process, these retractions and correcting articles pretty much never make it into the everyday press. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-024-00716-2

Ok,so I have just learned about BIP85 and its use case for "child seeds". This seems to me like a really convenient way, even without multisig, to provide/generate multiple wallets for friends or relatives that don't have much bitcoin knowledge and alleviate the fear of losing their seed. Am I missing any disadvantages here? (I never hear BIP85 discussed as a strategy for long term storage or distribution within a defined number of peers when this question is discussed ( #Bitcoin #asknostr

New study shows another possible reason why&how sleep is important for a well functioning brain. Baseline assumption is not new but the group has identified the neurons responsible for this phenomenon. #neurology #science #sleep

Hello World! Not my first post but just joined Nostr yesterday after reading a post from Derek Ross. New to social media, never used Twitter and still learning the nuts and bolts of how this all works. Hope I can contribute a little to grow the network in the future. #introductions

I went into neuroscience because I wanted to understand why we are the way we are. Especially if and how Intelligence and Consciousness are inter-related. With the recent rise of AI and whether or not at some point in the future machines would become conscious, I was reminded of Roger Penrose's theory of the mind,in particular that consciousness was not only a algorithmic function but that quantum superposition is a contributing factor. Could it happen that AI can become hyper-intelligent but will forever remain "non-conscious"? What would be the implications of such a new form of intelligence? An interesting review about this: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnmol.2022.869935/full: "Consciousness, Cognition and the Neuronal Cytoskeleton – A New Paradigm Needed in Neuroscience"

"To get good government, you must have good people in charge of government. ...If a people have lost faith completely in their democratic institutions because they cannot find people of caliber to run them, however good that system is, perishes." Lee Kuan Yew. wonder how many iterations of bad people in charge an otherwise good system can survive? Can one bad president or chancellor bring everything down or is it a slower process?
