Pics I took earlier, from today's outdoor Agora market of the season hosted by the St. Paul Freedom cell (some cool local people with whom I do cool stuff). It went really well!
In the first half of the 20th century, large sections of black self-reliant & self-segregated neighborhoods which were prosperous, full of thriving businesses, services, and healthy nuclear families, were tore down by state governments in order to do highway projects all over the U.S., under the guise of "slum clearance" (reducing "undesirable areas"). Here in St. Paul, it was the Rondo neighborhood, when they were putting in Interstate Highway 94. A client of mine who is a local historian (and takes oral histories from people) wrote a book about it, "Voices of Rondo", and I helped her with the website for that book. That was 20 years ago, the year I went from doing web work on the side of full time office work, to doing it full time. Haven't worked for anyone but myself since then.
