HOW THE HELL DID OpenAI CHARGE A DELETED ACCOUNT? Short story: back when the LLM hype started, I created an OpenAI account using Apple ID. That was ages ago. Later on, I deleted that Apple ID and the OpenAI account linked to it. Wiped. Gone. Two weeks ago — my new OpenAI account (which I’ve been using for a while now, this time registered with ProtonMail) had its Plus subscription expire. So I go to renew it via Apple Pay on my iPhone. Boom. Apple Pay charges me — but ChatGPT Plus wasn’t assigned to the account I was logged into. Instead, it somehow gave plus subscription to the deleted account created with that old AppleID and gives Plus to that. I can’t even log to that account because it should be deleted. Excuse me — what the actual fuck? How is that even possible? That Apple ID is gone. That OpenAI account is deleted. They’re not supposed to have any of that data anymore. So how the hell did OpenAI know where to assign that subscription, when I paid using a different Apple ID? How did they even assign a subscription for an account that shouldn’t exist? Either they’re holding onto deleted account data behind the scenes, or there’s something seriously shady going on with Apple Pay. I reached out to support. After 14 days of silence, they replied: “Sorry, we can’t refund it. And we can’t transfer Plus to your current account either. If you paid via Apple Pay, the subscription is tied to the first AppleID registered under Apple and uses same credit/debit card.” What the hell?! I’m using a brand new Apple ID — the only common factor is the card number. Apple doesn’t want to refund it either. Bunch of clueless dilettante clowns — for real. So now I’m supposed to pay another $20 to get the thing I already bought? Fuck off I SHOULD’VE BOUGHT SATOSHIS INSTEAD. NO TRANSPARENCY. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. FUCK OFF, OPENAI/APPLE.
