In June 2005, Sotheby's offered this gorgeous PSA 8 graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle in their Important Sports Memorabilia and Cards catalog. The expected sales price was $40-50k! It's now a million-dollar card after changing hands at least two more times! image

Ted Taylor and Bob Schmierer created three series of 1947 Bowman Baseball cards in 1976 and 1977 to promote the 2nd and 3rd Philly Baseball Card Shows! They placed this advertisement in the July 1976 issue of The Trader Speaks to promote the show and cards! image

Here's an item you don't see every day: a 1954 Bowman baseball metal printers sheet with Mickey Mantle and, next to him, one of the set's rarities, Ted Williams! But guess what? It's got a twin, but I don't know where either is anymore! image

Superior Galleries auctioned off this awesome 1952 Topps partial uncut sheet of 12 triple-printed cards via the 13th National Sports Collectors Convention Auction in July 1992. I'd love to find a copy in color! image

The 1984 San Diego Padres Tony Gwynn Lite Beer promo card is a fascinating oddball issue. I spotted it in an August 1985 Baseball Cards Magazine ad from San Diego Sports Collectibles, but I'm unsure how it was originally distributed. image

Robert Laughlin’s creative sets have become super popular lately. In March 1976, he advertised two great 42-card sets in The Trader Speaks: the 1976 Laughlin Indianapolis Clowns and the 1976 Fleer Baseball Firsts. image

In Mastro & Steinbach’s August 1997 auction catalog, I saw this stunning 1930s Dizzy Dean Grape-Nuts cereal advertisement. More research led me to find three total cardboard counter display versions from the Gashouse Gang era, showcasing vintage marketing at its finest. image

Here's a really cool item that I ran across in Mastro's March 2000 catalog; a 66-card uncut sheet of 1959 Topps Baseball cards that includes Hank Aaron, Orlando Cepeda, Frank and Brooks Robinson, White Ford, and Don Drysdale! image

In August 2003, Mastro sold a treasure trove from the Exhibit Supply Co. archives: 60 mostly 8" x 10" photos used to produce the iconic football Exhibits. Featuring legends like Otto Graham, Marion Motley, and Y.A. Tittle, plus production notes and proof sheets, it’s a remarkable piece of football and hobby history. image

The 1963 Milwaukee Sausage Co. Seattle Rainiers set includes 11 unnumbered, 4 1/4'' square cards cut from retail packaging. Blue tinted with a bit of red and yellow, the set features players like Billy Macleod and several future MLB players. Most cards show stains, evidence of their original purpose. image

You can grab a 1990 Score baseball factory set for under $10, but the 25-card McDonald's version? With only 4,000 reportedly made (vs. who knows how many millions of base cards), it commands 40x the price! image

Mario Alejandro introduced me to this card in his tweet from March 2024, and then I ran across the following picture of it in Issue 15 (Summer 1993) of Topps Magazine. image

It may be because I recently published The Uncut Sheet Archive, but I've been seeing a lot of awesome uncut sheets lately while perusing old catalogs lately, like this 1962 Topps uncut proof! image

The 1967 Topps Stand-Ups are one of the scarcest Topps test issues, though Topps likely intended them as a 1968 release. Anyway, I ran across a December 2004 auction that featured both the Mickey Mantle proof and die-cut versions! image
