In our Bitcoiners from the Western part of El Salvador network ("Bitcoineros del Occidente"), we’re big believers in teaching self-custody to newbies BEFORE any Bitcoin’s custodial app (custodial wallets, etc.). Bitcoin’s "raison d'être" and nuclear reactor IS self-custody. Anything else is a win for the fiat mindset & Ponzi scheme. Once we’ve shown to other fellow Salvadorans how to write down & preserve their seedphrase, they’re not confused: they’re empowered.
