GM #nostr #coffeechain βοΈGetting started on planting root crops; putting in beets, carrots, parsnips, turnips, potatoes and some ground nuts (not peanuts). Excited to experience this one. Wishing you the very best for your day!
Ground nuts are new to me, though long history. Per sowtrueseed.com, βApios americana, also known colloquially as "Indian Groundnut," and by its indigenous name, "Hopniss," is found in indigenous diets from Canada to the Gulf coast. This perennial from the pea family produces both edible tubers and beans (seeds are edible but pods are fibrous!). Groundnuts can be planted with potatoes in the spring time. The vines can extend up to ten feet, with purple-pink flowers resembling wisteria from July to September. Fleshy tubers varying in size from one to eight centimeters in diameter can be steamed, roasted, boiled, mashed, or can be dried then ground into a thickening powder for recipes. A bit sweeter than potatoes, but with lasting heartiness, possibly related to the high protein content (3x more than a standard potato).β

GM #nostr #coffeechain, Hubby made a batch of cold brew coffee last night with cardamom. So smooth π #grownostr #homesteading

Despite locally reported 92 mph winds here last night, and I personally saw a gust earlier today of 40 mph, our porch greenhouse survived seemingly untouched this time. Yeah! We get high winds a good bit from Dec - early Spring, and previously, the greenhouse would get a bit mangled inside, with shelves and hydroponics system knocked over and plants scattered everywhere . Keeping on keeping on !

Projected 80 mph winds in our area of the county tonight. Going to say GN and go check for anything that needs a last minute tucking in. π¬οΈπ¨π
Hasta π
High winds on our ridge today have made it an indoor only work day. Do have a bunch of Day Lilies inherited with the house in need of dividing and moving. I have heard that these are edible. Anyone, particularly from #permies group, have a good recipe for these? Let me know. #homesteading #permaculture #garden #gardening #foodstr #grownostr

GN all!
