If talk about blockchain without proof of work I’m cautious of what comes next. Blockchain or a distributed ledger build by many used for consensus is highly inefficient and therefore has narrow usecase. If you want speed, just let one pc build the ledger and have others accept it.

Why no shorter block times? Well how are you going to build consensus around the world for the state of the chain in 1 minute with latency in general? Pretty difficult, so this might result in many forks.

The signing algorithm (ECDSA) of Bitcoin currently has 128bits of entrophy. So you could argue 12 word is safer than 24 word seed phrases.

Bitcoin’s use case (“The Value”): Bring your part of 21 milion into a future with more circulating Fiat. Don’t think that’s valuable? Right now, the most valuable thing in the world is long term capital. Will probably stay that way.

Als je het plat slaat kan je een miner zien als een politicus en een pool als een partij. De partij of politicus met de meeste invloed of in dit geval rekenkracht heeft de meeste kans om de verkiezing te winnen. Meer partijen betekent vaak grotere verdeling van invloed en hoe meer invloed hoe moeilijker het voor een nog onbekende kwaadwillende is om de verkiezingen te manipuleren. Daarom is het belangrijk dat de integriteit van de verkiezingen beschermt wordt door veel en verdeelde invloed en dat politici vrij zijn om te wisselen van partij als ze het niet meer eens zijn met het beleid. Als een partij of politicus verkeerd beleid voert (zoals een ‘double spend’ transactie toevoegen aan een block) dan wordt dit beleid afgekeurd door de burgers (de node runners die de normen en waarden van Bitcoin geschreven in code draaien op hun pc). Hierdoor kan de partij of politicus de verkiezing verliezen en maakt een andere eerlijke partij kans. Als na enkele verkiezingen jouw transactie nog altijd onderdeel is gebleven van het huidige beleid, dan kan jij bijna met 100% zekerheid zeggen dat jouw transactie geslaagd is omdat het ondertussen algemeen aanvaard is dat jij die Bitcoin op die datum en dat adres hebt ontvangen. Met ‘Proof-of-Work’ zorgt Satoshi Nakamoto voor eensgezindheid onder Bitcoiners zonder dat daar vertrouwen of een toeziend oog voor nodig is. Voor Bitcoin de transactie laag betekent dit dat er geen bank meer nodig is als toeziend oog die jou vertelt hoeveel je op je rekening hebt staan.

“Bitcoin is not backed by anything.” Why are you overthinking this? 1. I see value in a bearer property that I can hold on my phone and send anywhere without permission. You don’t? 2. I’m not buying another crypto because the creator can and probably will change the roadmap right after I buy it. 3. USD was backed by gold to stop dilution, theoretically. Bitcoin cannot be diluted because in order to force changes changes you need a lot of kwh’s. And still nodes could invalidate out of consensus blocks by the miner trying to force changes. So in that sense it is actually backed by energy.

Bitcoin is globally distributed consensus run on devices. You can create your own Bitcoin look-a-like with 22 million coins but my node has been programmed to deny these coins. We will be on a different network of computers. My node only accepts Bitcoin that has the properties I want and most likely most want, that’s is the consensus.

I think Bitcoin Mechanic’s standpoint has been heard more lately which is good to see. What do you think? Are you already running Knots? Got 'pay with Bitcoin' signs for 1.5 years now. Today the first customer paid in Bitcoin! 🎉🎉🎉

Gooood morning from The Netherlands. This is outlet bed shop De Gaapkamer (The Yawn Room) currently holding shop in Rotterdam. Can I conveniently use Primal to add customers as connections and receive payments of €100-€1500 worth of Bitcoin? I've 'Pay With Bitcoin' signs on my shop for years now but many find it too scary to pay these amounts because of the final settlement. The Primal app might give them confidence.
