Just never looks any smaller. Definitely going to be some nice boards to mill out.

Good news, finally. Power returned last night. We will spend the day pushing remaining resources to our peoples still in need. It’s been 20 hour days that have flown by and not exactly remembered with any real continuity. Will be nice to look back, make adjustments for future plans, and get everything put back together.

Progress on first of many trees. So much damage. Almost used to seeing it. image

If I can get anywhere near this price for all these downed trees I’m processing .. I’m rich folks! Sats sorted. 😂 image

To bring a little of my typical silliness back, I did promise the kids a tree house.. got a house tree instead. So close.

Yeah.. haven’t made a dent in any of this yet. The property has such a different feel. Attempts at mentally processing the situation is a dizzying cycle of relief for all of us being unharmed, fear at the proximity of it all, sadness for the loss of such magnificent trees, a sense of ridiculousness for having such strong feelings about trees and property when loss of life is a reality for the community around us, and then back to relief for being unharmed. Rinse and repeat multiple times daily. Thank goodness for the jobs at hand to distract and focus a busy mind. image View quoted note →

There’s something reassuring and peaceful knowing that the animals on the farm have no idea that the power is out. All they know is that the sun is. Perspective.

Confirmations and failures: event still ongoing. -FRS radios are insufficient for communication within community. Not enough HAM operators to make use of locally. Boosted CBs seem the likely solution for my situation. -my supply of gas/propane was indeed not as ridiculous as I was teased about prior to this event. 😜 -more chainsaws. more chains. -dual fuel lanterns/stoves are invaluable. -battery banks were insufficient. -food stores/resources on hand were more than adequate. -security and vehicle access seems adequate. Luckily not fully tested, but vigilant. -water redundancy was crucial. Lost a well head at the onset. Open well and water storage proved necessary. -additional generators needed. Had one fail almost immediately.
