1. Demoralization (15–20 Years)
This is the longest stage because it takes the amount of time needed to educate one generation of students.
Method: Infiltrating the educational system, media, and religion.
Goal: To shift a society’s core values and common sense. Bezmenov claimed that once a person is "demoralized," they are unable to process facts or authentic proof, even when shown directly, because their basic psychological perception has been altered.
2. Destabilization (2–5 Years)
Once the population is demoralized, the subverter focuses on a nation’s structural elements.
Method: Targeting the economy, foreign relations, and defense systems.
Goal: To create intense polarization and tension within the society. This often involves radicalizing existing internal divisions (like race, class, or politics).
3. Crisis (6–8 Weeks)
The tension built up in the previous stage is pushed to a breaking point.
Method: A sudden upheaval, such as an economic collapse, massive riots, or a political coup.
Goal: To create a state of panic where the population begins to demand a "strong leader" or a "savior" to restore order at any cost.
4. Normalization (Indefinite)
The final stage occurs after the crisis has passed and a new regime or "new order" has taken control.
Method: Suppressing the very "radicals" and "revolutionaries" who helped cause the crisis, as they are no longer useful and might turn against the new power.
Goal: The new status quo becomes "normal," and the society is successfully subverted without a single shot being fired in a traditional war.
The main point was that this is an "open" process it doesn’t happen in secret through spies, but through legitimate institutions like schools and the press.
