Behold, the 90's Internet…according to #midjourney Too funny, definitely needs improvement in more ways than one.

In the late 90's and early 2000's an incredible optimism abounded about this new thing called the Information Super Highway aka the Internet. It was going to spread truth everywhere--maybe even foster a new Utopian age. Well, we see where that got us. In person, people are generally good, kind, and respectful. What happened to us and our Internet experience? Perhaps "Web 2.0" helped to drive the division we see because it was built upon poor principles and incentives. Namely, if the product is free, our "customers" are actually the product and we must therefore drive "engagement" using any means necessary. With the growing success of #nostr #[1] Amethyst, and the many wonderful clients out there, will we fall into the same-but-different Web 2.0 model? Or, do we really have a shot at building and contributing to something that will by orders of magnitude make the world a better place? What key founding principles would you like to see preserved or added to Nostr?

In the Blue Bird app, you have to pay for a blue check. If I recall correctly, in the old days, it was very expensive and you had to send in a picture of your driver's license. #[0] could maybe fill us in since I can't find the details. I remember in 2014 William Shatner complaining about just anyone getting verified. Verification was supposed to be for big celebrities in his eyes. The problem with this is the central-authority model. Who determine who qualifies? Who polices? I get why they did it back then, but the #nostr solution is so elegant, so beautiful, it's beyond brilliant. It's giga-brilliant. Namely... Let the users verify themselves. Either by using their own domains (brilliant, brilliant, brilliant) or by using a trusted third party NostrPlebs by #[2] or #[3] (add your comments for others I missed). Thank you #[4] and the #nostr dev team. This plan is awesome. Also, purple rocks.

I was explaining nostr to a friend, and yes relays and decentralized, and all that, but a big feature, there are no ads. None. Ads disrupt the flow. Don't mess with the flow, you know? I prefer paying a fee to the relays or paying for client-integrated image hosting / optimization. Damus could offer 3rd party image hosting integration allowing users to choose from any number of image hosting services, so you click an upload button for a picture, it uploads automatically to the integrated host of your choice. Just some thoughts for #[0] and the dev team. This place is beautiful.
