I’ve been wanting to share some exciting (to me) plant news! There is a wildflower that I’ve always called β€œlemon pepper weed” because it smells just like lemon pepper seasoning when you rub it. Delicious smell. I seem to always find it dried up and I figured it was some kind of Everlasting because of its appearance when dry, and a little due to it having an intense smell (the other Everlasting I’m directly familiar with is Helichrysum italicum). I could never quite figure out what it really was, though. Well, at the Homesteaders of America conference, a medicinal foraging vendor had a huge bundle of lemon pepper weed, so I took the opportunity to find out what it REALLY is. Rabbit tobacco, Pseudognaphalium obtusifolium! Weirdly, it’s described as having a maple syrup smell, which would be a little closer to curry plant than to what I smell. I don’t smell maple syrup at all, just lemon pepper seasoning all the way. Maybe it’s different when not dry. I am just so happy to finally know what this plant is and thought I’d share it with y’all. #botany #foraging #grownostr image
