A great deal of code is being written in Rust. It is a very popular, and one might even say fashionable, language. In today’s era of "vibe coding", the specific language of implementation matters less, and people seem to choose largely based on the advantages offered by a given language or environment, while ignoring the drawbacks. image

Russians flatly refuse to acknowledge any of their own crimes, and when terrorist attacks are staged by their own security services inside the country, they convince themselves these are the work of Ukrainians or radical Islamists.

It’s surprising, that Israel refuses to acknowledge what it’s doing in Gaza as genocide. I think partly because on paper, in the documents, everything looks proper and neat. And you know who else seemed to have everything "not so bad"? There were Germans who, even after the war, still didn’t believe in the Holocaust — until they went on tours of the concentration camps.

Did you know that Jesus not only could walk on water and turn water into wine, but also travel through time? This explains why Hitler didn’t die and why the Nazis got their base on the Moon.

image bsky next to the nick doesn't raise any questions for me at all. Of course, there are plenty of weirdos in Nostr too, from the opposite side, who want to destroy NATO, the dollar, the garden, and the "golden billion"… But they don't characterize Nostr, and as long as we haven't yet collapsed into a ghetto of auth, wot, and the like, we sort of still have freedom of speech here.

Local mobile operators apparently weren’t satisfied with just cutting off the internet every day, so they decided to start messing with the time as well. Maybe I’m just paranoid, but three times in a row I noticed the operator adjusting the clock — and it’s not as if they’re setting it precisely either. The lag is minor, but still hundreds of times larger than what you’d get with NTP. I don’t know why they’re doing this, or if they’re even doing it intentionally, but in my case it ended up forcing a mandatory smartphone reboot. Thankfully, it’s possible to disable time synchronization with the operator. ChatGPT tried to convince me that they use this to affect cryptography, but the lag still isn’t that significant.

I’m not really into that kind of music, but I’ve got to admit I’m surprised the Intervision ended up picking a pretty decent winner. Then again, going up against Asian pop these days is a lost cause anyway.

They get by on barter and grants from U.S., so they couldn’t care less about your Bitcoin. To them, there’s no difference between Bitcoin and shitcoin. Honestly, even in the Bitcoin community itself, people stopped noticing the difference a long time ago. View quoted note →

Looks like Bitchat’s hype has pretty much died out — and honestly, that’s fair. Bluetooth mesh is niche and barely usable, and the Nostr chats in it were just awful. But funny enough, Bitchat did manage to shake things up: suddenly Nostr chats are a thing, and 0xChat and coolr aren’t the only players anymore. In just a week, tons of chat apps have popped up — from bad and really bad (Check out my StrChat ) to pretty good or at least creative. Nostr actually works great for chat (at least no worse than old-school IRC), so I’m pretty sure we’ll see some interesting stuff coming soon.

Russia has started restricting mobile internet with whitelists — you can only visit sites that have been approved. I suspect they’ll eventually whitelist the entire web, which would let the authorities block VPNs and Tor bridges. Right now it’s not clear which sites are on the list. Things are pretty unstable, but once the whitelist becomes clearer you could hide Nostr events inside a whitelisted project and then extract them via a Russian relay that isn’t on the whitelist but is connected to a relay in a “friendly” country — from there the event could spread worldwide. Ideas so far: split events into chunks, exploit Unicode where filters were overlooked, or even hide events inside images. Receiving events will be harder, but still possible.
