Mainly travelling to/from Austria, Italy and France. Secondarily, Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. I am based in Austria, and my focus will be on long-distance travel, but I will offer all kinds of tips for local and regional trains, from ways to reduce prices to the most beautiful routes. 48xTc8MbEuCVkRbwGGo1PxP3XsJtvwAgFhtJ7ML6dobV9TTYeSxBnHNFNdqkLLR18kK5K1L5qxVgjRZHkGkVYrvaHDPozew
Some random regional trains from the Meidling Train Station of Vienna.
I managed to take a few photos before boarding another train with the EC/EN 463 train (EuroCity and EuroNight) operated by ÖBB (Austrian Railways) and MÁV (Hungarian Railways) that connects Salzburg Hbf in Austria to Budapest-Keleti in Hungary. (Meidling Train Station, Vienna)
Testing the updated @primal with the German DB Intercityexpress 116 "Chiemgau" Graz to Munich via Villach and Salzburg.
Good thing I waited a little longer to write about the Espresso Riviera summer train (Rome, Italy, to Marseille, France) because it seems to be cancelled for now. It was announced to have two trains a week, instead of the usual one, but something happened related to the Ventimiglia border crossing. Anyways... Next week I'll start a new train trip (Austria - Italy - France - Italy - Austria) and I'll take as many pictures and videos as I can. At least the first half is before the Easter holiday, so hopefully the trains will be emptier than usual, and I'll be able to picture the interiors too.
Let's test the new @primal with a beautiful Westbahn train (private Austrian operator) from the new Vienna - Villach route.
Starting today, you can get your SNCF tickets for the rest of the 2025/2026 season. 🗼🍾🥂 image
On Wednesday, March 11, SNCF opens the ticket sales for internal and international travel for the so-called summer time, which is actually from July 4 to December 12. If you need cheap tickets, take a look. image
There's a Flash Sale on SNCF for the Paris to Lyon route. I didn't check it this time but maybe someone can plan something. €30 First Class is a dream. image
Another ÖBB RailJet (No. 135 from Vienna to Venice) passing through the Thörl-Maglern train station, close to the Italian border.
SBB announced today a new direct route, Zürich to Rimini, starting May 30. Quite nice!
Ok, here's the booking procedure from the ÖBB app/website. While you can travel from €49,90 in the 2nd class, I recommend at least once the 1st class Panorama Car. You have 23 intermediary stops, on a gorgeous route, but you can split it if those 9:31h are too much. It can also be taken from other stations, as I might give it a first try on the Innsbruck to Graz section. Anyway, back to the reservation. Select 1st class, click on "Seat reservation", then choose from "Select a coach" the Panorama car 1st class, and then the preferred seat if that's the case. Ticket + reservation, €82,90. I found out only recently that there's a Swiss panoramic option on Austria's territory but with almost no details. Now I found this video and the mystery is solved. It's a Swiss SBB train operated in partnership with the Austrian ÖBB, called Eurocity 164 "Transalpin", from Graz, Austria, to Zürich, Switzerland. It doesn't pass through Vienna, and that's the reason it represented a total enigma. This is not my video, but it is from Landeck (Tirol), Austria, and I'll come back with more details about the route and booking in the next few days.
I saw this ad and I did a quick search, so maybe someone will find it useful. From the end of May, there's a night train between Vienna, Austria, and Split, Croatia.
The Austrian ÖBB Eurocity 114 "Mimara" from Villach, Austria, to Munich, Germany. Gastein, Salzburg, Austria
Most people have a love-hate relationship with Deutsche Bahn, but I have only love for it. Make DB great again! Here's an ICE T (T stands for Tilt).
