"Think of the people here. It's a mission for everyone." Hans ter Laag Hola! Already a few months before our 'Ruta de Bitcoin'-tour I came across a book where Saskia ter Laag writes about her search for justice after the murder of her brother Hans - nearby Chalatenango - in 1982! (Goodreads - in Dutch) 📚 Hans was part of a team of four journalists who were making a documentary of the Civil war. It is a very impressive read, that I can highly recommend. The story is about justice, political battles and journalism - and what it entails - and... grieve. 😢 During the same time in 2025 a Salvadoran court delivered a historic ruling - Grok. Three former high-ranking military officers were convicted of the murders, a staggering 43 years after this crime. It was impressive to see the monument. After this visit we went to Museo Jon Cortina (Wiki) where the villagers kindly helped us to find the woman with the key to open the gate so we could visit! 🙏👨‍🎓😅 #Journalism #Justice #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ image

"My Christian values guided me to form on August 27, 1977, a cooperative we called 'La Semilla de Dios' (God’s Seed) ... an art school to benefit and provide sustainable income to many families." Fernando Llort Hola! We've already spend a few days in La Palma, Chalatenango. It is colder here, more windy and there is one restaurant where we could spend some #Sats for lunch. While enjoying our croissandwich we've enjoyed the paintings on the wall and spotted a name. After some research we found out Vite has a shop closeby, so we've visited his gallery. They did not accept Bitcoin yet, but his wife Ingrid was happy to learn, so woehooo! We've bought some art with Bitcoin! 🎉 Now we've almost visited all of the fourteen departments of El Salvador. In the last great artistic pueblo I've left a brochure with Mario, artist in Concepcion de Ataco. We will soon return and see what his questions and doubts still are... if any! Que le vaya bien! ❤🔥 #StreetArt #OrangePill #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ image

Senka Tlasojkamati! 🙏(muchas gracias in Náhuatl) Hola! On top of the mountain of Cerro Verde - a cool national park - you can pay at the entrance with Bitcoin, although you do need to have a connection for that. Which we did not have. This would've been a great visit to check out if paying with the Tiankii card works, which we didn't bring haha. 🫣 What is pretty obvious - but gets quite clear while travelling - is that you can see how people are the main drivers of 'adoption' though. You need someone to go around the neighborhood to let shops participate. Cheers to all the orangepillers out there! 🥂 Right now we are in Concepción de Ataco, a beautiful village, with not so much adoption. I could sense the owner of a very nice cafe was a bit reluctant to talk about Bitcoin. He only wanted to accept dollars. That happens too and is perfectly fine. I've just spotted the Strong Gym on the BTC-map. We'll give it a try in a few minutes. Enjoy the weekend all! 💪😎 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #Murals #Adoption image

"The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion." Albert Camus Hola! We did not pay here with Bitcoin yet, but I can honestly say that (playa) Mizata may very well be my favorite place in #SurfCity. We did however visit El Zonte yesterday and bought a nice Bitcoin smoothie at the beach. We've also spotted some minor renovations. A new terrace at the sea. A renovated souvenir shop, where you can still buy a Bitcoinshirt for 10$. SurfCity is gradually improving. Along the road at the coast you can see advertisements of newly planned real-estate projects. 🏗 In Mizata you also have the more expensive Nawi beach House and the place couldn't be further away from their neighbours at the beach, where we've bought a coconut for two dollars. There's still a great soccer field in between. I wonder how long that will last. What will this place look like in ten years time?! 👨‍🎓 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #Gentrification #Inequality image

"Colombianos, las armas os han dado la independencia, las leyes os darán la libertad" Francisco de Paula Santander Hola! We've just arrived in Cancun, Mexico for a short break! 🎉The first half of our project-trip through El Salvador is a wrap. We've ended in San Benito and enjoyed a stay in the ecofriendly Cinco Hotel, where you can pay with Bitcoin too! ✔️ Yes, Lina Seiche has done a real good job redecorating the Salvadoran classrooms, so for the new school year Bitcoin-education is ready. Meanwhile Nayib Bukele is teaming up with #ElonMusk and #Google to provide the country with 21st-century education- and medical AI-assistance. Since I've read the classic 'Surveillance Capitalism' from Zoshanna Zuboff already twice, I'm not so sure if this will be a good thing in the longrun. But... the country surely is making innovative steps forward. What do you think? 🤔🧑‍🎓 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #Innovation #Education image

"A revolution is not carried in the mouth to live off it. A revolution is carried in the heart to die for it." Agustín Farabundo Martí (Grok) Hola! In the 'Museo de la Revolución' (Wiki) they have not discovered Bitcoin yet. That's actually quite contradictive. ;) I did however have a very good conversation with 17-year old guide and translator Natalia who wants to be a stewardess and fly all around the world. She is really eager to learn about Bitcoin too. Sitting next to her was a very old lady who was selling bananas for a dollar and smiling the whole time while we chatted a bit. To be with two different generations in one moment feels kind of special. You are in the presence of elderly wisdom and youthly ambition combined. 🙏 Also.. the elderly male guides in the museum can tell you all about their direct experiences of the last century. There is a genuine guerrila camp to experience too. It's definitely a must-visit when nearby or in Perquin. ✔️ #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #OrangePill #Museum image

"Bitcoin won't be adopted like the iPhone because it's cool. It will be adopted like gunpowder. If you don't own it, you'll be it's victim." Saifedean Ammous Hola! Since our visit to the next stop - the gated community of San Miguel - our time was mostly spent recovering from sickness. That's the reason updates have been a bit slow. I've been doing a lot of reading and I also think I agree with Saifedean. What about you? 🤔 Included in the days that followed in La Union was a trip to SurfCity 2, where we've spotted a lot of 'Bitcoin accepted' signs! In the city itself not so much though, and we ended up paying our bill in FIAT at the only restaurant on BTC-map 'Amanecer Marino', but... the food was great! 😋 Now we're already a few days in Perquin, where Bitcoin acceptance is also very limited. A place that's not on the map, but where you can get a great view and pay for your burger in Sats is Foresto Restaurant. One to definitely go and check out! ✔️ #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #LowTimePreference image

"The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club." 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐤 At Monday evening's meetup in Berlin this great quote is what I got as a response when I asked about the location of the hang-out 'The Standard', but we found it anyway. Over there we had a good chat with Pierre. He is one of those Bitcoiners that now lives almost completely on a Bitcoin #Standard, so that's pretty cool to hear. I'm curious what they will make of this hide-away gem! 🛠 What we also usually do not talk about is stomach issues, but here we are. It tied me to our 'Bitcoin-BnB' El Compita - with a really amazing view😍 - the past few days. Still, we did manage to do some sports training and it gave me valuable time to catch up on my reading. We also did go for a visit to the “The Emerald of America”, better known as 'Laguna de Alegria'. It was a pretty rocky road to get there with our rental car, but definitely a beautiful spot to visit! 💫 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #Activities #Reading image

"It is going to be the question of what the priorities are in this country!?" Jon Atack Morning! The most inspiring talk on Day 1 of Economia, Berlin, for me, came from this Bitcoin #Core developer📬 and builder of his own house (without cutting down 1 living tree 🌴) near the town of Tamanique. Meanwhile the town of Berlin, where we'll spent the next few days, is becoming a remarkable Bitcoin haven, with a festival complete with marching fanfare band and majorettes. Brilliant! Ich... bin ein Berliner!? ❤😎🔥 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #Berlin #Community image

"Movement is change of perspective..." Monika Bravo Buenos diaz! In the hotel Finquita San Nicolas I could not enter our room with the electronic key after a bill for 1,65$ dollar for two extra buns at breakfast was still open to pay. Bizarre! 😱 Other than that it was a pretty good spot for attending the 'Adopting Bitcoin' congress, only 15 minutes with an Uber! 💫 At Bitcoin (Centro) Historico 21.000 Pupusa's were given away for free, helicopters ($250) were flying to the Salamanca congres centre and we met with friends from the Netherlands. Few of the highlights of Adopting were meeting all kinds of people, exploring the booths in the central hall and attending the talk with Valentin Popescu and Alexandra Navarro on stage talking about indigenous tribes in #Peru. They are using Bitcoin as a tool for sovereignty, education, and empowerment! I also enjoyed talks from Monika Bravo and Michael Ruiz, but everything can be rewatched via the livestream! ✔️ #RutaDeBitcoin🏄 #AdoptingBitcoin image

Hola! Did you know? In 1854 there was an earthquake that totally destroyed San Salvador. 'A decision was made to rebuild the capital six miles to the west of the ruined city on land belonging to the 'Hacienda Santa Tecla' that was purchased by the government' (Source Telegram!). The Nueva San Salvador - or as we now call it Santa Tecla - is where we witnessed our very first earthquake! It was a small one, but its quite a interesting moment when the whole room starts shaking! 😱🤣😅 Step by step there's more adoption. Claro, the Latin American telecommunications company, did not accept our creditcard, but did accept... Bitcoin! That's why I now have a phone with a Salvadoran number, to go and visit 'Adopting Bitcoin' coming days. I'm curious to explore the congress. Just like on this very cool slide - which you can find on the way back from a great view (you've really got to go and see by yourself!) at 'El Boqueron National Park' - I think I'll just go with the flow! 💫 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄 #AdoptingBitcoin image

"To the Indian, private and individual ownership of land was as meaningless as private ownership of the sky, the weather, or the sea." David Browning - El Salvador Landscape and society ¿Qué ubole? We've visited Joya de Cerén and San Andrés both in one day, taking the public bus from Santa Tecla. The total cost of our transportation was about 5 dollars - for two persons - nice! In San Andrés the guard at the entrance was willing to accept Bitcoin, but unfortunately his phone thought otherwise, but it will come! ;) The great thing about Joya is that it shows how normal people lived amongst the Mayan culture, and not just the elite as in other touristic places. Their society was far more developed than once thought. I'm curious to find out what new #LIDAR discoveries will teach us. The great thing about Bitcoin is that both 'normal people' and 'the elite' can participate! What do you think? 🤔🧑‍🎓 Happy to read along your thoughts. Enjoy your day all! 🙏 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ #Ownership #Elite image

Hi y'all! At the Bitcoin Farmers market we've met a fellow Dutchman who started a Salvadoran bakery business called SeaSide Sourdough. Although seven dollars for a sourdough bread seems a bit on the expensive side to us, we did enjoy it! 😋 In the taxiride to Tamanique, Juan our cab driver shared he was deported by #ICE after living 22 years in #NewYork! He is back now and sleeps in his car - is our guess - since he really doesn't have any place to go. The whole process took about a week for him. Pretty amazing to have a chat. We hope he'll get his life back together. 🙏 Our guide Arie on our way to the waterfalls (of Tamanique) shares that now the gangs are gone the most worrysome problem is rising prices. He also tells us that its mostly young people who get into fysical trouble when climbing down and up the mountain, which we thought was quite surprising. Apparently our youth are not in good shape! BTW, all these people do accept Bitcoin for payments! 🔥 #RutaDeBitcoin🌊 #Inflation #Dollar image

Good day all! The alternative plan (instead of the hot laundry shed🥵) turned out to be a very cool penthouse amongst the palm trees.🌴😎 We've spent a couple of days there with a bunch of American surfers on their favorite spot: Lote44 in El Zonte! It was very interesting to take them to the meetup too. Afterwards we've had a good talk. Only dad needed a bit of updating on the developments actually, but in our conversations I - once again - noticed most people look at Bitcoin from their own #Personal level, while they should keep in mind that there are more ways to analyse such a #Complex issue in a fast changing #Global world. 🤔 Yes, I've visited the Bitcoin HardWare store for a mini-class (in Spanish) and we've made a quick visit to the Bitcoin Farmers market. Very inspiring! 🔥 Now we are at Playa Majahual, next to the touristy El Tunco beach 📸. It's the place where some dangerous natural swimming pools on the rocks are being pounded on by majestic waves. Stay safe! 🌊 #SurfCity #Levels #RutaDeBitcoin🏄‍♂️ image

Dear Wallet of Satoshi. Oops, it happened again! 🤕 We had a marvelous dinner at street venue 'Tres Olas' in El Zonte, El Salvador and of course, we chose to pay our bill with Bitcoin. 🔥 Unfortunately, the flyer to scan the QR-code we used before was not available and our hostess typed the amount on her phone. Before we knew it, our transaction was sent and oopsie. Apparently we have sent a BTC #OnChain transaction, instead of a recommended Lightning one. This costs us 8$ dollars - 8.368 #Sats - in transaction fees. 🤕🫣 So, yes, its a mistake - and maybe some education is needed on our and the owners end, but we would rather have the transaction process flow a bit more smoothly, so we won't have to worry about sending the wrong transaction. What if we could just find a solution for this problem so others won't go through the same predicament? What do you think? 🤔🧑‍🎓 Ps. Wallet of Satoshi got this mail and refunded our fees. Appreciated! 🙏 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄 #Wallet #TransactionFees image

Buenos Dias from El Zonte, El Salvador, woehoeee! We've checked and verified and the Satoshi Nakamoto #Statue is really there, near Bitcoin Beach.✔️ So good to be back in this exciting town, which changed a bit since our visit last year. A few new stores and places to check out! 😎 Also, below the last post we saw a first contribution in the chat.🎉 Tnx for your participation. Because of that share I've now listened for the second time in my life to Max Keiser in a podcast, since... I also met Jethro Toro at the Bitcoin Hardware store who just interviewed Max and Stacey together. If I understand correctly for Max Bitcoin has been a spiritual awakening and a #Renaissance for us all awaits. Can't say I disagree! 💫 Honestly though, about some parts of the conversation I'm a bit more sceptical, but no need to get into that now. We both agree Bitcoin will change people for the better. Owh yeah. Thanks Max for the drink, we've enjoyed it a lot! 🙏🍹 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄 #Religion #Transformation image

Hola mi gente! We've been walking around #SanSalvador for a week now and there's a lot to share. Of course, we've first checked whether the Bitcoin bookcase was really installed at #Binaes and yes, it is - two of them actually - with all kinds of great books of well- and less-known Bitcoin authors. We've spotted Little Hodler too. Very cool!!! 😎🔥 What I've also noticed? The #Chivo kiosks are still there, plus people really seem to get more used to paying with Bitcoin. Yes, there was some panic at the SuperSelectos supermarket, after I accidently got a Bitcoin instead of a Lightning payment and it took about half an hour to verify. 😱 We've visited the Guns N'Roses concert in Jorge 'El Magico' Gonzalez-stadium, payed our respects at 'Cemeterio de los Illustres', went for a search after Gerardo Barrios and spent time at the National Palace and the Military museum. Owh yeah, muskitos had a special celebration with us. They must really love us, and we ate our first pupusa's! 😋 #RutaDeBitcoin🏄 image
