“And it will often happen that a man with wealth in the form of coined money will not have enough to eat; and what a ridiculous kind of wealth is that which even in abundance will not save you from dying with hunger!” —Aristotle
“In economics, things take longer to happen than you think they will, and then they happen faster than you thought they could.” —Rüdiger Dornbusch, German-American economist
My mom recommends a lot of books to me that I just don’t have time to read. This one sounded interesting, so I bought it. Only on page 1, but it’s a good start!
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 NIV
“Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men's protection and the base of a moral existence.”
-Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
I disagree with Rousseau on almost everything, but this nails our current culture.
““In this new state, with a simple and solitary life, very limited needs and the implements they had invented to provide for them.
Since men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to procure many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers. And that was the first yoke they imposed on themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of the evils they prepared for their descendants. For besides, they're continuing this to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit.
And as they had, at the same time, degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet, and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to possess them.”
Bitcoin fixes this. Proof of work matters.
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:9-10 NIV
