Having been in the fire service through some of my earlier years, I encouraged my wife to join the fire department six years ago. Today she made Lieutenant. In that time I’ve seen her go from being so nervous she almost wanted to barf going to her first practice, to passing NFPA 1001 certification, countless courses, and evolving into a very capable incident commander on everything from structure fires to MVC’s and medicals. The journey hasn’t come without personal cost, having been on some pretty bad calls in that time. Lots of late nights, interrupted family time, and seeing people in the community on the worst days of their lives. But I couldn’t be more proud. #grownostr

I feel like an asshole for saying it, because laughter in the workplace should be welcomed. But there’s a midwit that works here whose laugh echoes down the hallway likely 30 times a day, who truly sounds like a retarded hyena crossed with a retarded, loud-mouthed baboon. image

Gardening in Zone 2b. A constant battle against the elements. I had to wrap the seedlings up tonight because we’re supposed to get close to 55 km/h gusts tomorrow while I’m at work. The temperature swing in this area (-40°C to +40°C), and the short growing season also make for some unique challenges, especially for new plants. Today I got a sunburn working outside all day. Tomorrow a freak air mass could threaten single digit overnight temperatures. I’d rather be in the El Zonte hills or Uvita!

We took down a massive willow stump in the yard this week. I have some disposal work ahead of me, but ended up with a nice round for the knife target.
