tried to draw again tonight, with zero warm-up or preparation. it's about as far as i got in terms of developing my drawing skills before i lost patience. image
demonstrating the combustion triangle by lifting your lab coat, letting one rip in a test tube and setting it ablaze with a sparkling cake candle. 🎉
trying out vegan substitutes for ground meat at the moment. not so much for ideological reasons, but because they sell a soy product at the local supermarket that costs about the same as the cheapest meat option, but they say you should eat less red meat. doesn't taste quite like meat, but it tastes all right, and has plenty of protein, so...
i'm only really able to enjoy vegetables if i do things to them that make them less healthy but more tasty
apparently, <30m² (320 ft²) is considered a "micro apartment". mine's 13m² plus a balcony. i guess this is a "nano apartment".
things you didn't want to know about milk: the mammary gland is an evolved version of the sweat gland. so mammals essentially "decided" that, hey, how about i feed my offspring with a sweat-like substance. so if you ever smelled a glass of milk and thought, hm, this reminds me a little of sweat or stinky toes, that's why.
this is kind of how my face operates when i'm listening also, i'm bald and i wear glasses and i scratch my head a lot i'm not concluding here but there are signs
me: (forgets to buy toilet paper and almost puts his pants on the wrong way before leaving the house) also me: let me explain machine learning and brain science to you for a few hours, going almost completely off stuff i remember reading years ago: image
a Google search offers surprisingly few obvious options for a consumer to upload their photos to have them auto-tagged or auto-categorised. cloud storage? plenty of that. APIs for AI? plenty of that too. out-of-the-box solutions for real-world problems? not so much. my feeling is that it's due to scalability issues. handling billions of images on behalf of millions of customers would be a massive undertaking.
why do people do this thing where they answer a different question than the one you asked instead of just saying that they don't know
how to get in touch with your own senses and the moment and your actions. my mind drifts and i'm rarely quite there, mentally speaking.
impromptu 4G speed test from my apartment in Oslo - nothing crazy but it's more than fast enough for me image
Wendover Productions | Why West Virginia is so Poor the place sounds almost like Norway. most of it is mountains and isn't good for farms and factories. what saves Norway is the vast coastline. before Norway had roads and before it struck oil in the 70s, the sea was the main way of moving people and goods around the country. seafood was also the main source of protein for many. fur farming was really big at one point. just like in West Virginia, we lack farmland, so it's much easier to farm animals such as mink or pig. here's Norway's trade balance. the exports are crude oil, natural gas, ships and oil platforms, and the final item is seafood. "fastland" is mainland - stuff that isn't offshore. our trade balance is negative if you get rid of the oil and gas. we're importing for 22 million NOK more than we could afford without the offshore industry. that's why it's so unpopular to talk about decarbonisation here. nobody wants a thinner wallet. image
