Can't afford to go to the dentist until next week. There aren't any cavities but my gums are hurting. I need a cleaning. Also, enamel is missing all over the place, so it's very temperature sensitive. I'm just enduring it for now. The metal music, the exercise and the synth project helps distract from the pain.
What's weird about making agreements about the distribution of stuff you made is that you can end up reaching very different agreements with different people, for reasons that are hard to explain, and if the other guy finds out, he might feel unfairly treated. I can see how wages can end up being so different for similar positions in the same business. Without hard and fast rules, conversations about the same thing can take very different directions, depending on the person and their starting point.
Does it make sense if I say that I'd like to know some business owners, but not the corporate kind? Fixing stuff for a bar, tattoo parlour or burger place would be more fun than working on "web applications" and all that crap that I did for 13 years.
I did something that the CEO friend I lunch with didn't like very much. He doesn't want to meet me anymore. I don't think it's a big deal, but he does. Personally, I think he's being a giant stick-in-the-mud about it. He's a tad more conventional than me. Not exactly adventurous or spontaneous, or he wouldn't be a CEO, would he. Said my behaviour "isn't normal" and other things. Of course it isn't fucking normal. It's funny how you can have all these conversations with a person, but they still don't know you, even after all that time.
There's a thing I do more and more lately: If I reach out to an Internet account (including the social media account of a mainstream media outlet), and they never respond or even react to messages, I might unfollow them. It's 2024 and we're on the Internet. This is an interactive service, and I expect interaction.
My approach to getting at least a little cleaning done around the house is as follows:
"This is my kitchen and I'm the head chef. My restaurant needs to be in tip top condition!"
"These are my barracks. As a soldier, I must keep them in tip top condition!"
Dirt must be aggressively eliminated.
I've been on both sides of the artist/fan copyright divide. It's a tricky subject. Emotionally speaking, it's flattering when your stuff is remixed, but it also feels like they stole it from you behind your back. If they ask first, it's different, but people rarely do that. And I haven't always asked myself. I'm of two minds about this. All I can say is that I'm personally more lenient if a polite email comes in about it than if it doesn't. #artist #musicproduction
