When I check X and see the huge proportion of bitcoin accounts I used to follow closely nearly all have blue checkmarks, it makes me kinda sad. I know some didn't pay for them and got somehow grandfathered in, but the majority clearly paid for it, which unless I'm mistaken means they KYCd themselves.
