Nice summary. Ocean is the only remaining large PPLNS pool. They don't sell insurance so they can charge a lower admin fee. I think of it this way: Ocean pushes the luck risk down stack to their miners. They don't assume any of the risk of finding blocks and only take a flat fee of the bitcoin mined. This is a composable model to build on. Every other large pool uses FPPS payouts which assume the luck risk for their miners. This requires the mining pool to draw from a large amount of capital and enables the pool to charge a higher fee for this service. It is a highly centralizing model and we have to move away from it if bitcoin is to remain resilient in the future. View quoted note β†’
