The mark of a violent, statement making shooter in the U.S. typically is
- young male
- chronically online
- marked mental illness
- various clues clearly left online or communicated to others
- family or friend access to massive weapons
- a “joker” mentality of wanting to make a statement and watch the world burn
Media, politicians, and influencers on major social media want you to believe it is either right wing or l do wing. Notice I didn’t mention ideology like that. Because it often various (both “right wing” and “left wing” violence). But dully the ideology is *chaos* and loss of purpose, meaning, and real human connection in their life.
And I say this with the caveat that I have been incredibly critical and disgusted by the respond from the extreme left to this violence and murder, and knowing it needs to be rebuked and addressed. That is a smaller part of this compared to the reason I mentioned above, but yes this response from the left is antithetical to a free and liberal society. And I will confuse to fight and rebuke this.
I’m finding more range of thought, opinion and variety here than X these days.
Even with the small user base of nostr, with no algorithms you can get a clearer picture.
There are right leaning libertarians here for sure. But there are also left anarchists, middle of the road folks, mainstream progressives and conservatives, various communities and genders, and more.
Imagine what this looks like when nostr is even just 2x this? How about 10x? 100x? Incredible diversity, it’s only up from here. Let’s give social media (connection, journalism, media, truth seeking, social commentary, etc) a real shot here.

I’m learning things about a few friends in my community that are deeply disturbing. And I’m cutting these relationships.
I’ve seen many friends and family become unwell in the past over support for MAGA and a right wing fueled hatred.
And equally disturbing right now are friends I’m finding (via their reactions on social media) that are applauding the assassination of Charlie for using his first amendment rights to free speech.
“He fucked around and found out”
“These kids are better off without shitty father”
These people are severely unwell. Toxic. Hate filled. Violence in their blood. Lacking deep introspection and therapy for their own unchecked trauma and victimhood. And they’re deeply un-American.
Because America is not about your race, religion, country of origin. It’s about a set of ideas — mainly in the bill of rights. Do you agree, or not? That is the question.
I’m discovering many on the left that fight for so called marginalized communities, do not believe in free speech or difference. They seek to destroy and annihilate, rather than dialogue or just not engage (you don’t have to agree, or you can fight with words, action, assembly, not violence)
When you wake up, feeling so many things. Sadness, growing anger, concern, overwhelming feeling that nothing will change and we’ve been here before. You want to write, but you don’t want to say the wrong thing. But is there a right thing?
The biggest myth we’ve been told and fed is that as time goes on, people grow to be more civil and it’s just a natural part of evolution. Things get better just with time alone. This is not true, every day is a battle in hopes that peace and love win against dark forces. Instead, this partisanship will grow more intense and probably rip our nation apart, completely this time.
From security presence at the scene, to the response and follow up from local law enforcement and FBI, this is an all around fuck up
