This was an interesting study that developed an AI prediction model to predict which patients will have mental health deterioration or agitation events to help protect providers and patients. Study: Over the past decade, general emergency department visits for mental health conditions increased by 53%, while overall visits increased by only 8.6%. Agitation, defined as excessive psychomotor activity leading to aggressive and violent behavior, is a frequent feature of mental health–related emergency visits. This study using a cross-sectional cohort of ED visits across 9 hospitals, developed a prediction model including factors for detecting risk of agitation that demonstrated high accuracy and applicability across diverse patient populations. These results suggest that clinical application of the model may enhance patient-centered care through preemptive deescalation and prevention of agitation. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2833618 image
A US federal court’s ruled late Wednesday against President Donald Trump’s authority to levy some of his most sweeping tariffs 🇺🇸 We can expect this will delay the US from entering a stagflation period this summer to later in the year as the Trump administration is adamant they will find a way to enact tariffs by different means. In addition the Trump Administration is pushing for the spending bill currently in the Senate to pass. We can then expect the federal debt and inflation to increase substantially from the spending bill as well as higher prices from the additional tariffs the Trump Administration is planning to enact later this year. https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/29/business/tariffs-trump-economic-plan-hnk image
What will happen in 90 days when the pause on Chinese tariffs expires? 🇺🇸 What will happen at the beginning of July when the pause on the tariffs for most other countries in the world expires? No one knows. American businesses can’t forward plan their years or expand their businesses, hire more Americans, etc. if they have no idea what their costs of importing supplies and products from other countries will be from month-to-month. If American businesses can’t grow because of this chaotic style of tarrifs, then we can expect US economic growth to stagnate. https://www.reuters.com/world/us-china-tariff-live-updates-bessent-greer-announce-details-constructive-geneva-2025-05-12/ image
Stagflation: Why Retirees Should Care 🇺🇸 While the U.S. economy isn’t officially in a period of stagflation yet, signs are pointing in that direction. Also concerning is that if stagflation starts, it’s unclear how long it will last. “Stagflation is a double whammy for retirees, who now have to pay for things (via inflation) and likely have lower savings if the markets continue to do poorly,” says Blanchett. In periods of stagflation, it can be difficult for retirees to maintain their lifestyles without drawing more money from their retirement savings accounts. With stock markets down, retirees can no longer absorb inflation by relying on rising investment accounts as they did in the past, says Dann Ryan, managing partner at Sincerus Advisory. As a result, Ryan says retirees may need to pay more attention to how much they draw down from their retirement accounts; they should make sure they are closer to the 4% withdrawal rate during periods of stagflation. Retirees may also need to rein in their spending and adjust their lifestyle to cope with rising prices for goods and services. image

Big Tech’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ heads into earnings season reeling from the Trump Administration’s tariff turbulence 🇺🇸 “The mass confusion created by this constant news flow out of the White House is dizzying for the industry and investors and creating massive uncertainty and chaos for companies trying to plan their supply chain, inventory, and demand,” Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives said. 🇺🇸 The first Trump Administration had a targeted tariff plan, but does the current Trump Administration’s economic policies seem overly emotional and chaotic? Shouldn’t the White House have well thought out economic policies with a stable roll out? image
