Bitcoin Optech Newsletter #262
This week’s newsletter links to transcripts of recent LN specification meetings and summarizes a thread about the safety of blind MuSig2 signing....
#ElectrumWallet is a great wallet to get you comfortable with #bitcoin wallets and security.
Create a wallet with a mnemonic + passphrase. To get used to this kind of OPSEC.
Take notice that this passphrase isn't stored anywhere and it creates a total different wallet that the one with only the mnemonic.
You can use tool to test and learn this, but don't use any website to create mnemonics. Use the tool for learning only.
You can see that the BIP32 Root Key is different in each case.
Using a mnemonic + passphrase in your wallets will get used to this method.
Tails OS also has Electrum Wallet installed.
You can use #402PaymentReq
guide to learn about offline signing.
This will help you to learn how cold storage works. But don't forget to use the mnemonic + passphrase.
After being conformable with these knowledge. You can use a hardware wallet like #BlockstreamJade #Bitcoin Hardware Wallet. This will be your signing hardware. It is the same as the computer that stays always offline. But is much more practical.
To buy a #BlockstreamJade #Bitcoin Hardware Wallet follow my guide to get 10% + 10% discounts.

#BlockstreamJade #Bitcoin Hardware Wallet allows users to enter the first 11 or 23 words of a BIP39 recovery phrase, and will automatically calculate possible options for their final word. This is especially helpful for users who want to generate entropy manually (such as by rolling dice) to create a recovery phrase, but still need a safe way to calculate valid final word options.

#Bitcoin Development : #Blockstream Talk Podcast Welcome back to #Blockstream Talk. This week we’re talking about the #LightningNetwork with Adi Shankara @Adi Shankara , senior product manager for #Greenlight and #CoreLightning at Blockstream.
Greenlight is a Lightning-as-a-service (LaaS) solution that allows developers to enable lightning payments in their applications while granting users full and exclusive control over their funds.
Greenlight's current solution, which might be the only truly non-custodial lightning network as a service solution in the market. It specifically targeted at helping developers that want to integrate the Lightning Network.
The non-custodial part is probably a unique part of the value proposition. Not just in terms of not your keys, not your coins, but also from a regulatory perspective. As we've seen recently with the issues around the app store, and apps like Damus and Zeus.
If you find this conversation useful don't forget to subscribe and share.

What makes Jade so secure?
The #BlockstreamJade encrypts your wallet data on device - then forgets the secret needed to decrypt it! Many #Bitcoin hardware wallets function similarly but use an on-device secure element to store the extra secret.
With Jade, your extra secret is off-device with a blind oracle, decentralizing your security & acting like a virtual secure element. The only way to get it back? Enter your correct PIN.
This makes the Jade unique in that there is nothing to steal from the locked device alone.

#BlockstreamJade #Bitcoin Hardware Wallet running on Ubuntu 22.04.2

I run my #BlockstreamJade #Bitcoin Hardware Wallet on a Ubuntu installation on a 32 USB stick. It is the USB stick on the previous image side by side with Jade.
This is a guide on how to install Ubuntu on a USB stick.
This is a more general guide that should work in any linux distro
And step by step guide for Debian with images
I usually install the distro in a virtual machine. Usually virtualbox.
Then I create a backup of the disk with dd command.
Restore that backup on a USB stick.
And then resize the partitions to fill the entire USB stick.
Another thing worth mention, if you have in issue on the #BlockstreamJade wallet being detected on your Linux distro. Try to connect it directly to the computer. Don't use any USB Hub.
