Here is a bacteriophage virus model (model by Jpxfrd on printables.com) My wife needs some models for a kids science day visit at her work (she works in a biotechnology lab). The T4 bacteriophage is in my opinion the coolest looking virus, it looks like a spider or like Rocky from Project Hail Mary. The T4 phage is used as a vector in cloning and biotech recombination methods. Medical research has also taken an intrest in the phage to use as "antibiotic" because it targets bacteria. #3dprinting image

I finally got a 3D printer. I have wanted one for probably 3 years now. This is one of the cheaper ones but good to get started and it looks decent. I plan to use this printer for prototyping and building parts for a model RC glider plane I'm working on. Lots of things here are new to me but I learn best by doing. #3dprinting image

I want to repost all five illustrations again in the right order as the story progresses. There will be more illustrations in the future as I have not captured all the important scenes (there are so many). If you like this project of mine you can give me suggestions on what scene to do next. Thank you nostr 🙏 #art #artstr #hobbit

Fifth hobbit illustration. When Bilbo meets Beorn the skinchanger. Acrylic ink and black pen. Bh:914946 JKG 2025 Little bit of cultural folklore context here. Beorn is an anglosaxon equivalent name of the Norse name Björn/Bjørn which means bear (Bjarni/Bjarne is another variant with the same meaning). A skinchanger is someone who puts on the skin of another animal and then transforms into that animal. Think of the berzerker, the elite viking warriors known for wearing bear or wolf skins and going "berzerk". The word berzerk comes from berserkr - ber(bear) + serkr (skin clothing). Beorn is my favorite character in the book, he is immensely strong and powerful, he is disagreeable and suspicious of strangers and a fierce enemy. However he is loyal and kind to his friends. What shows the depths of his character as well is his love for his animals which he views as his children. It’s best to have this guy on your side. image

A wife and two little children have had their father taken away from them. This is sad and tragic only. I didn't know much about this guy but what justifies this? And some people on tiktok seem to be cheering.. that adds insult to murder.

All the Youtube diy nerds have a CNC machine, 3D printer and a laser cutter. I wonder which tool is highest on the priority list for me to get so I can be like "Bob, who likes to build stuff"

My fourth hobbit illustration. When Bilbo meets Smaug. The dragon’s name is derived from an old norse/icelandic word "smjúga" - present tense and "smaug" past tense. The word means to slither through a narrow opening. Tolkein borrowed a lot of words from Norse mythology and the sagas. #art #artstr image

Bónus stormtrooper. Acrylics on 100x100cm canvas. This painting was challenging for me and took forever. For those curious about the piggy bank logo, it's from a supermarket chain in Iceland called Bónus. I always found the pig looks stoned in the logo 😆 BH: 913515 , JKG 2025 #art#artstr image
