I like the "revealing the map" metaphor. I wonder if the map shouldn't primarily be people, communities or profiles, but conversations. Those are what we eventually come back for.

Swedenborg, the 18th-century Swedish mystic, had an unusual idea about Judgment Day. People aren't sent to heaven or hell. They gradually drift toward the communities that match what they truly loved. Judgment isn't a sentence. It is a revelation. Online communities work the same way. People don't migrate to platforms. They gravitate toward conversations that match what they truly love. Platforms don't attract communities. Conversations do. 🐝 What's the buzz? #Nostr #OpenSource #SocialMedia #UX #swedenborg

Which would make you more uncomfortable? A government deciding who gets money. A market deciding who gets money. Or nobody deciding?

If civilization is an ongoing conversation, should our digital infrastructure be optimized for posts, feeds, algorithms—or for the continuation and discovery of conversation?

A challenge to #Nostr. People don't migrate to platforms. They migrate to conversations. The challenge isn't to convince the world to join Nostr. The challenge is to make Nostr the place where the conversations worth having take place. Everything else follows. Post accordingly.

#Bitcoin taught us to think differently about ownership. Nostr is doing the same for speech. But I wonder whether #ownership is the deepest concept. #Speech isn't simply something we own. It is something we author together, within conversations. The interesting question may not be who owns speech. It may be how #authorship survives when platforms disappear.

Did anyone ever make a rigorous ##nostr user profile study? It would also be useful to know what arguments to stress for different potential user categories. #asknostr

The block size war illustrates the continuity trap: #Bitcoin accepted visible costs because the consequences of changing the protocol were more uncertain than the consequences of leaving it unchanged.
