Using sidechain functions when mixing , is much deeper than the boots and cats edm groove. More than just sidechain kick and bass .. side chaining can be used from creative desires to clearing space for vocals to sit in a dense mix .. the world is your oyster! Happy day !

Achieving a consistent vocal is on of the most sought after sounds in all of mixing. This starts before anything , with a great recording , not using tools to fix problems . Fix problems with the vocal first , like pronunciation or sibilance. Then comes editing and clip gaining the vocals , word by word or note by note. Finally some processing and effects , then once the rest of the song is mixed together , final vocal rides via fader . Focusing on emotion the entire time. Happy Day !

Mono mixing ?!?! I do agree with this concept , however once that initial balance is set , I mix primarily in stereo . Occasionally I check my mixes in mono , but that’s only for mono translation of delays and effects .. if you need better translation , it’s monitoring . Hope y’all have a great Sunday !!

I think the idea of high passing everything except kick and bass , can get a little dicey .. I’m not saying you shouldn’t high pass everything , but there’s some really useful stuff in some instruments , it’s good to really feel the high pass on everything .

Balance is priority number one , when it comes to mixing music. Balance will get your mix well more than 80 percent of the way finished. Without this , reverbs delays or EQs , won’t “ fix the mix “. Win win win .

Mixing music is all about handling emotion, vibe , and impact. All the technical stuff are just tools that should be inherently know , so that you don’t need to think or wonder what should be used. These tools come into play when you have a vision for the record, the vision leads to the plan , and the plan leads to the tool. Ultimately , there is no right or wrong answer , the service of the song is the goal. So the tools needed are ones to serve that specific emotion , vibe , or impact. Toane
