I’ve learned, contrary to all of my best laid plans, that sometimes, due to some peculiar feature of father son relations (no doubt), my son simply cannot learn certain lessons I impart at this juncture in time. Much to my dismayed relief, my son has come home from his schooling with another teacher, only to share what he has learned; a lesson that I have broached with him so many times before. Here, I am not speaking of positive reinforcement through iteration, but rather that there is some type of limit that exists between this father and son, beyond which nothing shall be imparted to him at this point in his youthful development. My son is going to give me a video gaming lesson today. Again. I grew up in the era of single stick. He bifurcates with two plus a multitude of buttons. It involves augmented processing, but more importantly, his teaching me helps him to learn soft skills as we bond. I’m here primarily to teach my sons. Naturally it’s an ability that they will need when they have children of their own, so I make sure to have them teach me things they are passionate about on a regular basis. Until age 2, kids have to remain rear-facing in some jurisdictions. In others, they can be turned around to face the world upon their first birthday.
