Mostro 🧌 was built around a simple question. Why do you need to ask someone's permission to buy or sell bitcoin? There shouldn't be a company in the middle. No account to create, no document to submit, no approval to wait for. Bitcoin exists so anyone can participate in the financial system on their own terms. Mostro exists to make that possible in P2P exchange. An open protocol. Sovereign nodes. No custody. No KYC. No middlemen. That's the vision. And it's been the same since the first commit.

Sats are held in Lightning ⚡ until both parties fulfill their part. The code executes. Nobody decides in between. That's what makes the system work.

What happens if something goes wrong in a Mostro 🧌 trade? There's a dispute system. Either party can open one during the trade. A node administrator reviews the case, and mediates between buyer and seller. The decision is applied directly on Lightning ⚡ Nobody can walk away with the funds. The protocol holds them until there's a resolution. That's how you build trust in a system with no trusted intermediaries.

There are people who can't send money to their family because a bank decided their country is too risky. There are people who can't open an account because they don't have the right document. Mostro 🧌 doesn't make that distinction. The protocol accepts anyone with a Lightning wallet and internet access. The financial infrastructure that should exist, already exists ⚡

May 22nd, 2010. Laszlo paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. It was the first moment Bitcoin worked as real money between two people, no banks, no middlemen. 15 years later, that idea is still the most important one in the ecosystem: Bitcoin gets used.
