For budget and schedule reasons, legendary B-movie director John Carpenter composed, played and recorded the soundtracks for his movies himself in the 70s and 80s. He used analog synthesizers, drum machines, piano, guitars and used them creatively. Those soundtracks, for example Halloween and Escape from New York, are cherished even today. In recent years, Carpenter has made tours with his band performing the soundtracks and themes all around the world. Now, if a today’s movie soundtrack was created with #AI musical tools, what would you think? Would that artificially generated music be remembered after 50 years? Or even after 50 minutes? I don’t think so. You can’t create art with AI. You can only create disposable imitation that can’t even remotely touch the soul.
