Here's an interesting theory:
What if the reason that the stolen funds went to a single address was so that a single transaction could reverse the thefts.
What if they wait 3 weeks and send that transaction with an 84+ byte OP_RETURN message apologizing for the exploit.
This would almost force BIP-110 to fail because if you ran the RDTS you would never validate the return transaction.
A deal with the devil of sorts. Plebs were mainly the victims of the exploit. Want your coins back? Run Core. Sinister stuff.
