I'm derigging the family sailboat for scrap today. As I drilled drain holes in her hull, I felt the sadness of her final parting along with the regret of having abandoned her a decade ago. Her mast will probably become a flagpole on the family farm. Her keel, bullets, maybe. Teach kids to sail. Teach them to go with the wind, and they can go anywhere.
