The freedoms won in 1776, were lost in the 1913 thanks to the 16th amendment and the introduction of the Federal Reserve. With the income tax firmly in place, it gave the politicos in DC the right to your income, and by extension the right to control your life, your work, and your future. The answer isn't taxing the rich more ensuring that billionaires "pay their fair share" but it's to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment. Tinkering with rates or "fairness" won't fix the root problem. We cannot have traditional American freedom while the government has unlimited taxing power.

Yet today the US is part of NATO, the UN and has been meddling in the Middle East, LatAm, SE Asia, Eastern Europe to name a few to feed the proof of weapons network, while Americans got poorer and less freedom.
