Google's LLMs are cracking me up today. I fed some text into Gemini 2.5 Pro that contained a misspelling. Gemini guessed that what the writer meant by "veriority" was probably "verisimilitude". Gemini has so much faith in human intelligence. Yes Gemini, the person who can't spell "variety" definitely actually meant "verisimilitude" and also definitely knows what that means.
Gemma 3 seems a little too fine-tuned to be agentic, and kept hallucinating that it was checking web results even when it had no tools available. The amount of grovelling that Google RL'd it on is really quite impressive. It was hitting every part of an apology: acknowledging its precise mistake, self-flagellating, and promising to do better in the future.

I’ve been using Aider recently for AI pair programming. It seems like the best setup I’ve seen so far for managing context and doing real programming work.
It is impressive tho how insanely expensive Anthropic’s models are. Google has the same or better performance for just a fraction of the price.

Spain will take 'all necessary measures' to prevent another blackout, says PM - live updates
Power has now been fully restored in Spain and Portugal, as officials continue to investigate what caused the outage.

New Cato institute report shows that both legal and illegal immigrants commit less crime than native born Americans. Even if you exclude all native born black people, immigrants *still* commit less crime. Can Americans all finally shut up about immigrant crime now?
Probably to make his bid for Pope. He already had the look.

Not enough people are talking about the fact that if the US has massive tariffs with other countries, there's always another country waiting to give them a hug be that rebound boyfriend after they've been dumped: China.
There's just a few countries left that have more trade with us than China and with the tariffs it will probably end up being just us and hopefully Canada and Mexico.“Principled” Anti-Government people when the government starts shipping off foreign looking people with tattoos.

And there at last is the reason everyone is leaving OpenAI. Sam is finally making his power grab.

The Three Mile Island plant could reopen soon! Microsoft is following Amazon’s lead and is running their own nuclear power plant. Yet another win for nuclear power.
Interesting that when private money is on the line companies are opting for nuclear reactors rather than solar or wind 🤔.

Three Mile Island nuclear site to reopen in Microsoft deal
The 1979 accident at Three Mile Island had cast a shadow on nuclear power in the US for decades.
Sooo, maybe don’t use the same username on Twitter and porn websites? And if you’re running for governor you might consider scrubbing your old Nazi posts. Food for thought.

Does anyone know of some good high quality resources to learn cryptography? It would be nice if they had a focus on public-private key cryptography and programming.
@jb55, could I try and bring
up to date (probably as a new pull request) so that Damus sends messages with PoW automatically? I know you said that you think Lightning is a better filter, but every single person sending notes on Nostr can calculate PoW since they obviously already have a computer whereas the same is not true for Lightning. If Damus leads the charge on this and if we can get @Vitor Pamplona on board we could make PoW default on notes which could almost completely solve the spam problem.

Whenever I look at raw Nostr events I'm constantly amazed at how simple the basic building blocks of the protocol are.
Happy Dark Side of the Moon month!
After looking at the languages that support WASM I'm pumped af for NostrScript. Now you can even script your Nostr client in Rust!
