Publisher does not have a vested interest in sales. e.g. Austin McCauley. 4⃣ Self-author contracts professionals to help publish and front costs. Author receives royalties. *** For new authors, the route to traditional publishing is long and the chances are slim. Still, it might be worth trying. One major problem is vanity publishers masquerading as hybrid publishers. Most of these companies charge authors north of $10k and don't care if the book sells a single copy.
