There are 4⃣ types of publishing: 1⃣ Traditional - publisher pays to produce + low royalties e.g. Penguin Random House 2⃣ Hybrid - publisher charges the author for production. Royalties go to author but publisher benefits from sales. e.g. Konsensus Network 3⃣ Vanity - publisher charges the author for production. Royalties go to author. Publisher does not have a vested interest in sales. e.g. Austin McCauley. 4⃣ Self-author contracts professionals to help publish and front costs. Author receives royalties. *** For new authors, the route to traditional publishing is long and the chances are slim. Still, it might be worth trying. One major problem is vanity publishers masquerading as hybrid publishers. Most of these companies charge authors north of $10k and don't care if the book sells a single copy. The author is the product. At Konsensus Network 📚, we traditionally publish a few titles each year. @KonsensusN *** We mainly serve authors as a hybrid publisher. There are too many books in the bitcoin and freedom space coming out for us to fund them all! Still, we strongly rebuke vanity presses. They often prey on new writers and don't help them find readers. We only accept books whose mission aligns with ours - spreading freedom. That's why we help our authors with launch plans and marketing through our network. Managing the whole project (with their input) also frees up time for authors. If authors have the time to learn and reiterate, self-publishing can be the better option. Hope that clears things up. *** Do you have a book project in the freedom space? (privacy tech, libertarian values, Austrian economics, bitcoin) I want to hear about it! Drop me a DM or visit our site: konsensus dot network Plus, beware of scams and false publishers. I've listed an excellent site in the comments to help authors avoid getting ripped off!
