I love Nostr, and the fact that it's actually true freedom of speech, unlike other social media. Even with that framing: it's amazing to me how much has changed on other social media in the past 10 years. I remember the terror around expressing my opinions on economics on Twitter, with the ever-present threat of being Canceled. The censors still have more power than they should, but their power base in substantially weakened. May it only continue.
I guess Iโ€™m still on some lists from when I lived in California. I decided to vote. If you want to know how people can always find โ€œ73% supportโ€ for whatever position they hold, itโ€™s bullshit, loaded questions like this. image
Convince me to be an anarchist I'm not an anarchist, yet. I _am_ already bought in fully to massively limited government and hard currency separated from that government. But I've yet to wrap my head around how the core roles of government as defined in the US constitution (like national defense, judicial system, etc.) would work without any government at all. I'm totally opened to being convinced, and would love to either hear from others or get recommendations on reading material on the subject. So far, when I've asked, I've been pointed to general Austrian economics writings, which are great, but haven't yet given me a vision for a fully anarchist world.
For the record, I'm the midwit in this meme. #bitcoin #memes #memestr #economics image
Womp womp. Though probably a fake story. Make Degeneracy Repugnant Again image
Many of us were raised to believe that looking out for your own self interest is bad. That selfishness is evil. Altruism and thinking about the good of all is superior. This is wrong. You'll never accurately know what's good for others. You'll never be able to rely on others making decisions that will benefit you over them. And amazingly, by each person worrying about their own self interest, the world overall becomes a better place, each person improving it in ways that benefit them.
GM Nostr! Who else is loving watching the swamp get drained in real time? #memes #memestr
Dude, the only reason any of us remember your name is so we can look up clips of you and laugh. @Miriam Snoyman and I were talking about you and the only thing she could describe you as was โ€œthe fake news guy.โ€ Though Iโ€™m personally a fan of Dollar Store George Clooney. image
When I was 15, I made some good friends in a new high school, and we decided to work on an open source video game. We never finished it, but I learned a bunch about coding, open source communications, and a lot more. This school year, @Miriam Snoyman and I transferred our 14 year old daughter to a new high school. She tested into the gifted program, met some new friends... and they recruited her to join their video game project. She learned 3D modeling in Blender, some coding, and how to communicate with a distributed dev team. She just told me that the newest international competition at school is going to require 3D modeling skills in Blender, and she's excited. Really wonderful seeing our kids thriving.
FBI is in disarray? FBI agents are worried about keeping their jobs? Good image
I've seen a lot of people discussing Trump's tariffs, especially on X. One thing I was surprised by was the lack of general understanding of how taxes influence equilibrium price. I decided to write up an explanation of how this works, hopefully accessible to people with no economics background. Topics covered: marginal benefit, marginal cost, equilibrium, inefficiencies caused by government, and a bit more. View article โ†’
