If nostr succeeds, the concept of measuring the growth of nostr will no longer make sense. Pockets of users will appear and disappear, totally unaware of each other’s existence.

The universal feed in nostr is an illusion. This note is performative. It doesn’t belong here. Someone put it here. Everything is curated.

A fair, transparent, social ticketing service built on nostr would be freakin amazing. I’ll do whatever I can do to support this project. View quoted note →

Bruce Perens recently outlined a "Post-Open" vision that aims to compensate developers fairly for their work and provide a more streamlined licensing and compliance model for companies using open source software. https://perens.com/static/DEVELOPMENT_LICENSE.txt?v=2004_04_01 Reading it, the license grants restricted rights to use the software for free up to $5 million in revenue per year, after which companies must pay for additional rights. It also sets conditions like prohibiting export for military/defense purposes, requiring modifications to be publicly released or paid for, and banning training of machine learning models without releasing the resulting model under the same terms. I've got a ton of respect for Bruce but if you were thinking about adopting something like this you would be better off hiring a lawyer to write something more specific on your behalf. We've had Free as in beer... Free as in speech.... and now Free as in a large legal team.

Has anyone been playing around with Air Chat? I'm a huge audio/podcast guy so assumed I would enjoy it, but the short clips and responses don't end up translating into an actual conversation. Finding the context and flow to be disorienting. Seeing a nostr screenshot was a pleasant suprise though. image

You should just assume there are already multiple companies on nostr harvesting npubs and building audience panels to monetize the data.

A nostr desktop client for power users will cater to a smaller audience, however it’s these users that will be the key to driving growth amongst the casual users (on mobile). It's a wise move to focus on meeting the needs of the high impact users. View quoted note →

Typically developers write code until it works, and at that point don't have the time or incentive to iterate on it. For judgement free feedback paste that janky ass function you wrote into an LLM and ask it "how can I simplify or improve this?"
