GM I want to discuss consciousness and whether I believe AI will ever achieve this. The short answer is no. Here’s the long answer. One of the key threshold problems we need to solve for AI to be truly useful is the prompt problem or the lack of agency issue. We humans act without external stimulus, yet AIs don’t. When we don’t interact with them, they do nothing. We kick started AI by artificially creating a reward feedback loop to stimulate learning and knowledge cohesion. That is the carrot. The stick, we have yet to solve and solving it, giving AI an artificial sense of purpose is a dangerous inflection point. If they are able to act without human input, we are no longer their masters and we rely on them having good will to us, lesser knowledgeable humans. The stick or prompt problem for humans is driven by the ancient need to prevent the pain of hunger or thirst, or cold or predation. We fear this pain or the prediction of the pain that will come from these circumstances happening and so somehow a consciousness sparked in us to allow true intelligence to constantly work to prevent this from happening. We can emulate this by making AI self sufficient. i.e. we build the robots that maintain the AI data centres, produce the electricity and GPUs and run, build and maintain the infrastructure needed for AI and we create the same artificial negative reward feedback loop from failing to perform these tasks. Does this spark consciousness. I don’t believe so, but I am in the minority on this. I don’t see a time where a group of GPU’s gains an organic self awareness and self identifying sense of agency. I believe that animals (including us) agency was self generated and that difference is the difference between consciousness in organic life and the inability for silicon life to obtain the same. For me, the critical point about consciousness is, forgetting the technical definitions and classical theories. I see the universe from inside my body. I exist. The universe could genuinely be a simulation for me and me alone. If it isn't and the universe is real and other humans and animals exist and understand the universe from inside their organic physical being, then I don't believe consciousness can exist inside a data centre, or inside a cluster of GPUs or in a future cluster of ASICs or whatever evolves to support silicon based neurons. I don't know what consciousness is and therefore I am unable to reproduce it. And as AI is utterly dependent on people like me to attain consciousness, if we can't define it, we can't recreate it.

We only have one view of the world, our own. Believing we can see others view point is a false fallacy. Also a false fallacy is false, because fallacies are already false, meaning that a false fallacy is actually true, which it isn't.

GM My statement of intent for NOSTR We often complain here that there is too little non Bitcoin content. I myself have been guilty as charged, focused on Bitcoin as it has represented my entire life for the past 5 years. I am going to change that and pivot primarily to AI content. For me, my Bitcoin journey has come to its natural conclusion. I am and will always be a Bitcoiner, but it has moved from technology to money for me. I have been all in on Bitcoin for a couple of years now and just as I moved from building the Internet in the 1990’s to using the Internet in the 2000’s, so that transition is happening now for Bitcoin. My brain has moved on to other things, right now AI, I am attempting to build an AI model, initially using public cloud AIs, but in the near future using a highly powered private cluster. I am not interested in AI for prompting or helping with workflow, I am looking to build a virtual me, or at least a twin. An AI mind that understands and can mimic me perfectly. Until the technology matures to allow this to be done effectively at home, I am going to continue to use public AIs. As many of you are aware, I would die on the hill to support the inalienable right to privacy, I choose, however, not to exercise that right myself, for the most part. I am comfortable with public companies holding massive amounts of data on me. I understand I am different to most in this respect. To that end, this NOSTR account is going to follow my journey into building an AI model of myself. I’m going to continue to share the deep work I’ve been doing and explain the journey I’m on. I will continue to post significant Bitcoin milestones or events, both personal and in the news, but my daily notes will reflect more and more my work in AI personality development. Here is an amusing exercise in thought feedback to my primary AI right now Chatty, my ChatGPT model. Enjoy image
