O Comando Operacional do Continente (COPCON), até então dominado por setores à esquerda, foi neutralizado. O estadista militar mais associado à estabilização foi o General Ramalho Eanes, que mais tarde seria eleito Presidente da República. 3. Vitória das forças moderadas As forças moderadas conseguiram restabelecer o controlo militar. A tentativa de golpe foi derrotada sem uma guerra civil aberta.
